2009 update

Post by Purplegeezer on Sat Feb 02, 2008 3:29 am

I just ran across some pictures of today's (Feb 2) USA-Germany match at
the Future Stars U-17 competition in New Zealand.

Here's a picture of Cloee Colohan (in USA gold) getting friendly with a German aquaintance

Ignorant commentator claims Cloee pushed her.

USA defeated Germany 3-2 to win the tournament with 3 wins, no losses or ties.
Theres a short story on the tournament here: NZ Soccer

Great pic of the future Pilots' central defender. We're going to have quite the interior defense in 2009: Cloee, Lindsi Lisonbee and Michelle Olivier (2008)! Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

(That's not counting any veterans who might play back there, also).

ussoccer.com finally posted the box score for the above game... Cloee played every minute again.

She played every minute of every game in the Future Stars. USA - Germany

I just realized that the Getty images has another picture of Cloee.

Here she is Giving a friendly pat on the shoulder to Germany's Tabea Kremme.

Cloee looks big, strong and solid to me. (I've seen her listed at 5'8". Lisonbee at 5'10". Olivier at 5'9".) Big, tough and strong central defenders! I'm guessing they all have speed or Garrett wouldn't have pursued them. All have junior national team experience. Feels real good just dreaming about the future of our team..... Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

I just saw something indicating that Ellen Parker, who I believe plays for the Sereno Soccer Club out of Phoenix, has given the Pilots a verbal commitment. I believe she may be one of the Region IV ODP players. I can't vouch for whether what I saw is right. Maybe one of you wizards can verify?

Well, her player bio shows that she is being courted by Randy Waldrum, Jerry Smith, and Anson Dorrance,
Athlete page
So far there are only rumors about her for 2010.... whatdya find?

I found it on an update to a list maintained by BigSoccer blogger cbg2004. Check out the following link to cbg's list: http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=poknaL_RaORDOMcyz_riBDA&gid=0

I'll ask cbg2004 how he/she knows about this oral commitment.

Later addition: cbg2004 says he received the information from another Sereno parent whom he considers credible. He is seeking to verify this with Ellen Parker herself and will advise me of the outcome of that inquiry.

On looking more closely, I was looking at cbg2004's 2010 graduating players (not 2009), which is consistent with the information on your link. Pretty far out there to be making a commitment. Assuming she has made an oral commitment, and that the Pilots want her enough that she thinks that is a good commitment to make, what does that mean about her? She is listed as a midfielder.

The reality is that the 2009 class is almost set and the top programs are hard at work on the 2010 class right now. I wouldn't be at all surprised if UP had a couple commits for 2010 already.

The history in the past has been that the early commits are some of the best players, so I'm betting that Parker is a good one, wherever she goes.

So, for the Class of 2009, I have Cloee Colohan, Lindsi Lisonbee, Kendall Johnson (Lincoln), and Brooke Taylor (West Linn) as committed. Any others?

I think that's it for now, UPSF. However, I believe Courtney Verloo is still uncommitted. Smile

After Saturday night's game, I ran into a fella at a bar who claimed to be the girl's JV coach at Tualitan and was pretty certain that Courtney Verloo was wanting to play out of the state and was deciding between UCLA and Stanford.

Wouldn't surprise me, ejjqb. Not everyone wants to stay home for college. Growing up in the area of course she has to know how great the program is and how awesome Merlo Field is. But if she really wants to get out of state for college... not much we can do about it. Sad

Timing is everything. Could Courtney had waited too long? I don't know...I think UP may still be in it. Which school can hold out for her the longest? Is there a possibility that Standford or UCLA recinds before Portland does? There's still a chance. They want to fill and secure spots on their team as much as UP does. Let's see who blinks first...if Courtney can't make up her mind pretty soon.
