10/26 v. St Mary's

Post by Harry Redknapp on Sat Oct 25, 2008 12:12 pm

Given the results so far this conference season this should be relatively straightforward for the Pilots, so I hope that they approach the game with a ruthless efficiency until it's in the bag. It would be very unfortunate to slip up now.

I love the wording, "ruthless efficiency".

And absolutely right that there can be no mishaps now. We will be pumped for SCU and USD. Those are our two last matches of the season. So before we get there, we must attack St. Mary's with no mercy, taking no prisoners, leaving it all out there on the field.

Here is a tidbit I heard about the game. Apparently during a play three USF attackers pushed Kelsey into a post causing her to hit her head on the post and totally lose her temper and Megan R. had to hold her back. Evidently it was a non-call by the ref that never showed up in the stats.

She really must have been peeved. Megan may have been getting Kelsey some payback when she picked up her YC. That part of it is just speculation though.

Does anyone know what the caution on Megan was for? From the timing, it sounds like it occurred on the kickoff following the second goal, which suggests a trivial card for entering the circle before the ball was kicked off.

entering the circle is generally just a restart for the other team. I have no idea what the card was for.

SoreKnees - I don't think anyone who actually SAW the match Friday at San Fran has posted anything about the match.

With no video or audio, and just GameWhacker to go by, I think we basically have a boxscore and a sequence of major events with no explanations and that's about it!!!

A player with passion and team honor to defend should definitely give payback for a no-call on a foul against the keeper. Not that I would tell my child to do so. And not that I'm saying any Pilot did so, since we have no eyewitnesses.

Hailee D. has not played a minute this season (redshirting 1 game at a time?) so the goal belongs to Kelsey, whose health and welfare loom large.

Right on, purple haze. I certainly understand why Hailee wants to redshirt if she possibly can.

However, this does put a lot of pressure both physically and mentally on Kelsey to stay fit and on her toes.

The next two weekends, there is only one game scheduled per weekend. Hopefully Kelsey can get refreshed and then the adrenaline will kick in for the playoff run.

(BTW - Kelsey has given up a total of four goals in 15 matches, with a little help from her friends. She has played every second of every match. I hope she receives first team all-america honors for her tremendous season.) cheers

That's going to be hard. Kelsey has made about the same number of saves all year some keepers make in a game. It's a problem many UP keepers have had.

How do you showcase you talents when you are leaning on the post filing your nails?

I do realize that, Geez.

I was just hoping they might look at her special situation, (i.e.: she's basically playing all minutes with no breaks, and has made some spectacular saves throughout the season.)

One can only hope I guess. But I realize she probably won't get it. (The voters should be forced to watch Kelsey play world-class GK in last season's Quarters at UCLA.) Twisted Evil

Another stat that can be considered is the individual goals against average, which to me is the best gk stat there is. The saves number just means the defense is not that great. Here is the link to the

Live stats here, though that looks more like table hockey than soccer field.

Pilots lead 1-0 on an early goal: GOAL by POR SCHMIDT, Sophie (FIRST GOAL), Assist by BURK, Charney, goal number 8 for season. On a rebound.

I'm trying to catch up with Live Stats: looks like Pilots started with ther "playoff"unit, meaning no Tres Amigas. Good news: Michelle O. started.
18th minute: unusual move: POR substitution: NELSON, Emma for SWEENEY, Megan.

I see that some of y'all are amusing yourselves on the Chatbox discussing the Live Stats but the darn thing just keeps telling me I am "disconnected." Excuse me, it does not know me well enough to say that.

Sophie S. has become a goal-scoring machine lately.
