My understanding is exactly as several of you have mentioned. The University would love to expand, and add a few seats, but the parking is insufficient. If/When the lower land cleanup occurs I have heard rumblings that the Baseball stadium would be taken to the waterfront, the baseball field would become a parking garage, and at least part of the current parking lot would be made additional greenspace. Don't worry geez you wont have to climb any hills.

While expansion would be fine with me if they added some seats on the student side where that gap was and maybe even down into the corner where the Pilot Club tent is set up on the grandstand side, I would much prefer to see the current seats spruced up a bit first. I think the whole stadium in general could use some sprucing up, especially the signs and the bench backs.

I just don't see the need for expanding a ton. There are only a few games per year that are true sellouts, and we already have lead the nation in attendance for three straight years... despite being 1200 under capacity. If we were averaging 4700 fans every game, sure - expanding would make a ton of sense. But since we still aren't even at 4000 yet, I think a better use of resources would be to spruce up what we've already got!

Well folks, it appears that the painting of the dome has commenced, looking forward to seeing a big Purple P on the dome between the trees.

Great news about the dome. sunny

Anyone know anything about when construction on Phase 3 begins? You know, the finishing of CCSC with Clive's statue and all the classy upgrades between the stadium and Chiles?
Last thing I heard, it was being delayed because of lack of finances.
But I thought it was already paid for in a gift from the school to the soccer program(?). scratch

Ask and ye shall receive:

Just hopped on the Schwinn and took them today. Wasn't expecting it to drizzle on me, but I actually saw that there were guys working there when I showed up. So clearly they aren't delaying much now that it's started, what with them working on the 4th.

Coincidentally, a Mexican league team who played the Timbers last night (I'm too lazy to look it up) was there practicing, so I was able to get into Merlo and take pics from the grandstand. You can't see it too well, but there were a few spots where they had put down some samples of purple. I also bumped into the man, the myth, the legend Bill Reed while on campus, and he said that the P is going to be pretty huge.

I can't wait to see it!

I'd better order up those 99% prescription glasses right away. It looks to me like we'll all be doing lots of squinting until the cloud cap comes back later in the fall.

Nice job, Stoney.

I know what you mean about the squinting, Geezer! I can't imagine how bright the reflection would have been if it were clear skies. But it looked to me like this is just a base/primer coat, and I think the final color will be more off white, because as it is right now... it's WHITE. I think in the end it will be more oatmeal or eggshell or whatever those paint color names. Smile

Eww...dude... not Ecru

or Papaya whip

or lemon chiffon

I hope.

I'd rather live with a real color, even if it hurts my eyes.

Yeah, I remember when Chiles was that goldish color, being at various points within the stadium and the glare was pretty bad. If memory serves, that's one of the reasons they painted it zit red...1) it would "match" the brick of the rest of the campus, and 2) the glare wouldn't be as blinding to spectators and players. At least that's what the rumor was anyway.

Well guys, I heard that the gray color you can see from my photos on the right hand side is the primer color and the white is the final color. I'm not sure if that is 100% true, but that's what I heard.

So... yeah. It might be pretty bright. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
