Michelle Voiland, an assistant for FC Saarbrucken in Germany the past three seasons, was hired as an assistant for the Oregon State women’s soccer team on Wednesday, coach Linus Rhode announced.

She will work primarily with the goalkeepers.

Voiland played eight seasons with the German soccer club before becoming a coach. She was a Nevada Olympic Development Program coach for three years before that.

She has also coached with the Portland Metro Soccer Club (1993-95); founded the Las Vegas Goalkeeper Academy in 1996, and coached boys and girls, varsity and junior varsity at Chaparral High School in Las Vegas (1996-1998).

The native of Germany was a standout at the University of Portland, where she was the starting goalkeeper and was a four-time, first-team all-West Coast Conference selection. Her senior season, Voiland led the Pilots to the NCAA Women’s College Cup Final Four.

Voiland earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology with a minor in sociology from Portland in the spring of 1995 and holds a Nevada State Soccer Association “D” coaching license.
