More NCAA Site-Location Shenanigans
Did I spell shenanigans right?
Anyway, it's about the Akron men's soccer team, but give it a read:
http://www.clevelandfrowns.com/2008/12/zips-soccer-team-screwed-and-beaten.html
Seems to me like the NCAA got caught up in the "letter of the law" type reading again... same type of thing that has resulted in them not considering potential revenues when opting not to let Portland host, etc.
Gotta love lawyers... something tells me Northwestern must have put up a big hissy fit about this one.

It looks like the NCAA was juggling several rules on venues here.
There's also a rule that says that only home sites used during the regular season can be considered for home venues during the tournament, which may have been ignored in the previous Akron game...
and a rule that says that inclement weather can mean that a turf field of the home team can be used if both teams agree and if the grass field is too muddy or flooded....
And a rule that says a team can refuse to play on to play on turf in the tournament if that is program policy otherwise...
There are probably a couple more rules that were considered, and probably a couple Akron ignored in its beef with the NCAA.
Go Pilots! ...

Re: More NCAA Site-Location Shenanigans
Interesting interesting... I knew you'd know more detail than a slanted Cleveland-based blog.
I just like poking the NCAA when I can. It helps give my meaningless little life some significance.

Amazing how the Pilots have fans everywhere...one commenter mentioned UP's treatment by the NCAA.
