Women's National Team Camp - Four Former Pilots

Post by UPSoccerFanatic on Mon Jan 28, 2008 11:48 am

Both Stephanie and Angie will be back at the next Women's National Team camp (37 players going, altogether, as a lead in to the Algarve Cup). The interesting news is that Cori Alexander will be going and so will Lindsey Huie! Wow, if Huie is back playing, how great. I'd thought she was finished with soccer.

Wow!, That's cool.

It'd be great to see Lindsey roaming the midfield again. It's great that Pia is willing to look at her.

It's nice to see that Cory will be able to show her stuff That kind of experience will help for the future. Yu have to figure Briana is about ready to retire.

Very surprising to see Huie's name associated with soccer again. She must have really missed it! Very Happy

Nice shot for Cori. If she impresses Pia, she could be a future addition to the team, if not this summer's Olympic Team. Cheers for her! She's really come a long way in the last few years. Shows you what hard work and heart can do to bring you special opportunities in life (mixed in with a little talent, of course). cheers

I saw this blog today Women's Soccer USA.

It's interesting to see the blogger make a distinction between those players affiliated with schools or clubs, and those who have a contract with the US team. Those players have (U.S. Soccer residency) after their names.

I don't think the Blogger has it quite right, though. Stephanie was offered a contract while she was still at UP and has probably accepted it by now, and Angie almost certainly has been offered one.

If Queenie gets a chance, she will too. Time will tell.

Great!

Then we need Megan to get healthy again and the greatest attacking trio of all time will be back together. Very Happy

Geezer

The only way the greatest attacking trio in Pilots history is back together is if Sinc magically qualified to play for the US!

That's a great point, Martin. But what I'm sure geezer meant, and he will definitely respond himself to your post, is this: On the 2005 monster championship team, where Sinc scored an NCAA record 39 goals and won every post season award possible, the core midfield that helped give Christine so many opportunites, consisted of the incredible attacking machine of Huie, Woznuk and M. Rapinoe.

I don't have a problem calling them the greatest attacking trio of all time. Christine is incomparable.
Like a Mozart, Jordan or Gretzky, she is on her own level, far up in the clouds. Calling this monster attacking midfield the greatest attacking trio is certainly no slight to Sinc.

That photo brings tears of joy to the eyes. It appears to have been taken after Wozzie made that quick goal in the opening seconds of the 2005 final.

You're right A_Fan! That was Angie's opening goal. It was an awesome strike! That Championship Final win was the Perfect ending to a Perfect season!!!

after I made the gaff that Martin corrected me on, the picture of Sinc and the greatest offensive midfield trio to don a Pilot uniform somehow reminded me of the John Kennedy quote when he was greeting Nobel prize winners at a white house dinner in 1962.

..probably the greatest concentration of talent and genius in this house except for perhaps those times when Thomas Jefferson ate alone.

An interesting story about the picture. You all remember, I know, that after scoring that first goal, Angie headed right for the bench for a group celebration. What I didn't know was that she had told the team that's what she would do, if she scored a goal. Now, there's confidence! sunny
