rev's twitter 7/3
I'm not sure I read his twitter of today correctly but it appears that he is flying Air New Zealand tomorrow. Having been to Austailia a month ago, a trip to down under seems a liittle unusual. Recruiting ?

Re: rev's twitter 7/3
You are correct Geezeer!!! I believe??? I should have thought of that as I have been following that returning Soph Kevin Young from LMU and he is playing for Puerto Rico. Of course the Zag recruits are playing, blah, blah,blah......but I have to admit their reloading with some good players. I think this is the year everybody in the league needs to cripple them on the road because their going to be tough down the road.
Either that or REV is on a nice vacation. Which I doubt with his type-A recruiting personality.
MesaPilot1 ...Happy forth of JULY!!!!

What an odd name for the New Zealand Senior Men's Team...The Tall Blacks? Are you serious? This would never fly in our PC country...regardless of whatever the original intent might be. Good Lord.

Because not all of them are "tall" or that not all of them are "black"?
My guess it would have something to do with the national rugby team being the All Blacks. I also seem to remember Geezer saying something about the Tall Ferns...is that their women's team?

Re: rev's twitter 7/3
I believe the name refers to the colors and logo of the rugby team. They use black and the Silver Fern (a plant) as the National Rugby Team's logo... several other NZ teams have used black (referring to the color) in their names...

Re: rev's twitter 7/3
Beat me to it. but that's never stopped me before
It's just the home uniform colors. Their national teams have a fascination with uniforms either white or black. Think Darth Vader, not mr. "T".
The Rugby Union team is the All Blacks. For years it was the only National Team, and very feared in the world of Rugby. They have been a totally integrated team since the late 1880's and their combination of European and Polynesian (Maori) players ruled the Rugby world. When they integrated, it was by addition of four WHITE players.
They are still pretty formidable. Their away colors are all white. And they are the guys that started the thing with the Haka as far back as the mid 1880's. Their most famous Haka celebrates the uniform "Kapa O Pango" (Team in Black).
New Zealand also has a Ruby League team known as the KIWIS. and a Rugby Union team known as the New Zealand Maori. They play foreign teams touring New Zealand. You must be at least 1/16 Maori to be on that team.
The Cricket team was also very good and were known as the BLACKCAPS for their then rougish custom of not wearing all white. Scandalous, for Cricket.
The Football (soccer) team became the All Whites (their away colors are all black). No HAKA for them. FIFA calls it intimidation. They get away with it if it's a friendly and have the Host's permission. I recall they did it at Merlo years ago.
So when it became time, they named the Basketball team the Tall Blacks. I think FIBA lets them do the Haka.
When it became time to name a women's Rugby team, they named themselves after the men's team and the native silver fern, so they are the Black Ferns. The Women's Cricket team became the White Ferns, the Netball team became the Silver Ferns. (Netball is New Zealands most popular sport, in terms of participation - remember girls basketball rules?)
The women's football team became the Ferns. The Women's basketball team is the Tall Ferns.
Here's the Kapa O Pango with translation:
I didn't say English translation.

Pilots should have a warmup like that!!
Nice Information!!!
I think the BB team should incorporate some of these moves and chants into their pre-game warmups and introductions

Re: rev's twitter 7/3
Haha well it might be a little less awkward if we had at least one player who is actually Maori... But the thought of Robin and Kramer doing a haka makes me giggle

Lots of people have tried
Lots of people have tried the Haka.
In response to the Kiwis, Supporters of the Pumas, Argentina's Rugby team, did a Haka composed of the names of comedy acts, kid's shows, cartoon characters, and TV wrestlers.

Re: rev's twitter 7/3
I think the Haka should only be done by the NZ fellows. They look seriously intense! Anyone else doing it is a weak imitation.

That was a deep burn. I'm sure they felt that one all the way down in Auckland.
