Re: Who do you think will start?
Funny, I always think of #3 as a defender's number.

Re: Who do you think will start?
Number traditions have long since gone the way of the dodo in a lot of footballing venues. Just look at Adriano:
He actually spent a few months earlier in the season as #29 as well, but over the last 5 years he's also been ? (literally a question mark), 7, 10 and X (which was apparently a salute to him being number 10 in Italy)...

Re: Who do you think will start?
There were only a few numbers available because most were already taken.
I'm a little surprised Cloee Colohan did not get #5. In the days before squad numbers that was the the classic central defender number.
These days I don't think it matters. Or that anyone cares much.

Re: Who do you think will start?
The freshmen only had #3, 5, 10, and 18 to "pick" from. Looking back to 2005 we never needed anything higher than 22 (although we Kori was 0)
For those of you who haven't looked at the Roster on the U P site:
Besides Kendall J #3
Taylor B. #5
Cloee C #10
Elinor P #18
Molly K #23
Besides the prediction of Kendall with most goals and Cloee with most impact.
How long before we see all of them in game action? My guess is by Labor Day in Seattle.

Re: Who do you think will start?
Haha even in the day of jersey # madness 10 it is a pretty rare site to see any center back (let alone a freshman) wear that hallowed number...

Re: Who do you think will start?
You guys hit on one of my deeply personal and long standing superstitions. With the 2005 team...I always felt the following number assignments bestowed some good luck.
#3 - Megan Rapinoe
#6 - Angie Woznuk
#9 - Stephanie Lopez
#12 - Christine Sinclair
I know its weird!!! But seeing these particular players wearing "multiples of 3"...made a whole lot of sense to me?!?
.....It was a "feng shui equation of relativity" thing....
....like I said....it was deeply personal and made more sense to me than trying to follow how RPIs are determined
GO PILOTS!!!

I predict that if you add up the starter's numbers for the U of O game, it will be a prime number.

Re: Who do you think will start?
OK. I think this thread has demonstrated that it's time for the season to start!
We're so ready for action that we are actually "talking" about the numbers on the shirts.
We really need some real soccer action to occupy ourselves with.

Soccer action?
You mean there will be soccer action?
I thought that was just rumor.
To show you the desperation I demonstrated yesterday, I was actually following updates of a game between Jacksonville and Flagler college.
The season better start soon, I'm almost out of my meds.
I stand by the Prime number prediction, though. Lots of computing went into that. UPSF would be proud.
Though I should amend that. There's a strong possibility that the roster numbers will add up to a number who's only factors are prime.

Re: Who do you think will start?
Speaking of real soccer action: Spurs 2 Liverpool 1! Come on you Spurs!
North London 2 City of Liverpool 0, with grudging respect to Arsenal for thrashing Everton 6-1.

aleppiek wrote:In regards to Kendall though, not sure if it is calculated or not, but you have to be pretty confident to take #3 immediately after the departure of one of the all-time fan favorites. Especially since she wore #5 in HS.
I'd have to say that Michelle Enyeart handled the taking over of #12 pretty well. Ditto for Danielle with #9.

Anybody roadtripping to Seattle for the UW games? I'll be at the game on the 30th in 2 weeks.

Re: Who do you think will start?
I'll be there. No promises, but I think you'll see a pretty good contingent for the UW game.
