Pilots to Auction off Warm-up Jerseys to Benefit Harper’s Playground
PORTLAND, Ore. --- The Portland Pilots women’s soccer team will be auctioning off special warm-up jerseys this season with all proceeds going to Harper’s Playground, which is a fund-raising effort to bring an inclusive playground to Arbor Lodge Park. The Pilots will debut the warm-up jerseys before Thursday night’s game against Stanford at Merlo Field.
Each jersey will feature a player’s number, and the team will wear them before every home game all season long. Fans can make bids on the jerseys at the fan information booth near the main entrance to Merlo Field during home games, and the winners will be announced following the Gonzaga game, on Saturday Nov. 5.
Harper is a local six-year-old girl who was born with Emanuel Syndrome. Harper’s Playground hopes to build community by providing the inclusive playground where children and adults of all abilities can play together.
“We chose Harper’s Playground because of Harper’s inspirational story and the admirable dedication of the organization to build a more inclusive world for everyone to enjoy,” said UP senior defender Emma Nelson. “This community has provided our team with endless support, and we are honored to be able to return the favor. We wanted to be a part of Harper’s magic and to help make Harper’s Playground’s dream a reality.”
The team also hopes to have special scarves made that will be available to purchase later in the season.
