Gonzaga game
Today was a bad day. First I couldn't see the women play. Then I get to the Pilot tent for my pregame beer and those damn young alumni drank up all the beer, Then I had to watch the men's game.
I ain't naming no names, but at least one UP player owes me a ticket.
wow

Re: Gonzaga game
Hey now... we didn't drink it ALL up. Bill just had to change kegs at an inopportune time!
As for the game... ugh. The Pilots were playing beautifully in the first 20 minutes. Dominating the game. And then it happened... a completely senseless second yellow card on Hossenmardi (I'll name names, Geezer) and we were stuck playing a man down the rest of the way. We hung in there and battled, but that's just too big of an advantage over 70 minutes. Damn it... I HATE losing to Gonzaga, especially when it really looked like the Pilots were going to run away with that one.

Re: Gonzaga game
both yellows were senseless. I thought he was damn lucky not to get sent off for the first one.

Re: Gonzaga game
The report is up on Portlandpilots. They call the second one questionable, but to my mind it was totally understandable.. The ref was probably regretting not sending Steven off the first time, so all he needed was an excuse.
I still want him to pay for my ticket.

Re: Gonzaga game
There were a couple of bright spots. Kawulok looked really good I though, in a "the 300" effort.
Gaah! I'd better stop. it's too frustrating.
I remember thinking..."it's a good thing he's walking to the locker room and not towards the bench ,because I still have some Pokies..."

Re: Gonzaga game
Well, my buddy thought the second might have been harsh--just a foul, no card, but I did remind him Hosseinmardi was on a yellow, and for the same kind of reckless tackle. What's really frustrating is Hosseinmardi was actually doing some decent work before he went. Gonzaga really was able to come on strong the whole second half--that goal in the first minute of the second half just took the fight out of the Pilots.
Drummer and I were both able to cash in our beer tokens at halftime, so I didn't have a problem there. Add a free Pilot Club dinner and purchasing a scarf from a helpful Villan and it wasn't all bad for me.

Well... Since you guys are naming names, I will expose the silver lining... He has to sit next game and not muck up the front line.

Re: Gonzaga game
PPT, I think you're right in calling the second card harsh. I'm sure the ref's decision was helped by the Zag player diving. Still, it was a pretty foolish play on our part, having been already booked.

Re: Gonzaga game
The poor showing against Gonzaga knocked UP out of TopDrawerSoccer's projected 48 team tournament field.
TopDrawer
We were at 35 last week , so that loss dropped UP at least 14 spots.
TD thinks so little of the WCC right now that he has NO conference team in his projected field. A bit strange, since the WCC does get an automatic bid.
