9/30/08 National Polls & More Acclaim For Jackman

The University of Portland women’s soccer team moved up to No. 3 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) weekly Top 25 which was released on Tuesday. Portland climbed one spot from last week after going on the road and defeating Rutgers (1-0) and then-No. 22 Penn State (4-1) over the weekend. Sophomore midfielder Sara Jackman was also named to the Soccer America National Team of the Week after coming off the bench to score two goals in the weekend victories.

Jackman was previously named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week on Monday. She tallied the game-winner against Rutgers and added a second half insurance goal against the Nittany Lions. It marked the first two goals of her collegiate career.

In other national polls, Portland maintained its spot at No. 3 according to Top Drawer Soccer. Soccer America has the Pilots at No. 4 for the second consecutive week. Soccer Times lists Portland and UCLA in a tie at No. 4, while Soccer Buzz has Portland ranked No. 5.

The Pilots (9-1-0) have won eight consecutive matches and look to extend that streak with a Friday matchup against the No. 18 Washington Huskies (9-1-0). Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m. at the Clive Charles Soccer Complex in the first match of a doubleheader with the UP men closing the night against Santa Clara at 7 p.m.
