Tara was a short, scruffy, physical tangler. A transfer to U of P from USC. The Pilots' opponents must have hated her, since I'm sure any opposing player near her came away with multiple contusions.
If my recollection is correct, it was Tara's dad who game me the greatest quote of all time comparing -- without mentioning their names -- Clive Charles and Anson Dorrance. It was after the Pilots' four-overtime 1-0 128th minute loss to North Carolina in the NCAA Tournament semi-finals in Greensboro, NC. The Pilots played the game with 13 players -- everyone else was too hurt to play. North Carolina played, I think, 21 players. Tara's Dad: "20 high school All Americans versus one well-coached team."
Re: So Halley Scores Golden Goal!!!
Injuries have hurt (no pun intended) the Pilots this season not so much in terms of games so far but in ways that affect this discussion about what to do when the three amigas are gone.
Rachael would be playing forward; that would have allowed Sophie to cover for Keelin.
Kendra might have played forward; that would have allowed Sophie to cover for Keelin.
Hallie K could have had playing time and wwe'd have a better idea of what she can do: look how much time some of the back up players got in the UW and UP tournaments, but she was hurt all that time. Obviously it's more important that Garrett have an idea of what she can do than us, but I think that there's no substitute for match experience. You can only formulate a hypothesis in practice: game time is when you find out for real.
None of these have had a significant impact on results to date. Now we are into the conference schedule and have to make sure to win all these games. Opportunities for rotation and experimentation will be limited to games where the Pilots can get a good lead and then perhaps put in the subs.
Winning out is critical to the RPI rating and the effort to get a #1 seed and the home games for the playoffs.
Bring on the Zags!

That's a really terrific set of pictures, ohhh_yeah. The set from the Men's Santa Clara game was, too.
I hope we get to see some more as the season rolls on.

Thanks for the pics oh yeah. good choice of b/w for the wet weather. The drenched Megan is one for Media Guide. Actually any of them would be good. You captured the wild spirit of the Purple Pride visually with the flags waving. Michelle E.s classic stride/ouch past the opponents . Keelin's balance and ball control under pressure, Elli's serious look downfield for a pass, Kelsey's smile. Great stuff.
Btw Geezer yes USD was the team that took USC to double ot and lost 1-0. They were looking for their 10 win against UCLA but didn't get it. Because guess who scored...Lauren Cheney in the fifth minute.
That means UCLA will be going in their 85th minute without a goal when they start against USD on Sunday. It would be quite a feat to hold them off at home. UCLA has won 41 straight games at home! Time for an upset.

Re: So Halley Scores Golden Goal!!!
Does anyone know how Halley pronounces her name?
Does it rhyme with daily or Sally?
I've always assumed it rhymed with Sally.

Re: So Halley Scores Golden Goal!!!
FYI... UCLA beat USD 3-0. The Toreros held them scoreless for the first half (even saved a PK!) but then UCLA really poured it on in the second. UCLA out-shot then 20-9, so if you judge on that it sounds like they controlled the game. You can read the game recap here:
