Note: Getting info from Audio Feed.
Pilots 1-0.
15th minute.
Beautiful cross by Jackman headed into goal by Foxhoven.
Dani's 12th goal of season. Freshman phenom leads team in goals scored by far.
Her first goal in 2 or 3 matches.
Megan Rapinoe madly attacking with 5 shots and 3 on goal.
Sara Jackman also a wild woman out there, it seems.
At 40 minutes, own goal by Lions. PILOTS 2-0!
HALFTIME: PILOTS 2-0!

PILOTS 3 - 0!!!
Danielle's team leading 13th goal of the season and 2nd of the match. Goal in 59th minute. Megan R. thru ball for the assist.
(That's 13 goals in 13 games. 1 goal a game average!)
She is immediately subbed out for Halley Kreminski. Go Halley!

That third was a beauty. Tucked it low inside the far post.
Reed and Winters played about the last 10-12 minutes. Didn't see Enyeart out there.
There's nothing like a fall Friday night at the Merlo.

Re: LMU @ Merlo 10/17/08
Nice, relaxing game. When the game is all in the offensive zone and the opponents counter players aren't very fast, it's a foregone conclusion. We saw what is probably the tournament team for the first half, and they seemed to control play pretty well. Megan was again in control of the midfield. Now if we can just get her to get her knee over the ball.
I vote for the first goal as the score of the night. Sophie's backheel and Sara's cross were a perfect setup for Danielle. She owes them both dinner.
The own goal was just the result of too much pressure.
Nice to see Korie healthy and working well into the defense
I did notice that Michelle didn't take the warmup runs with the ret of the team. I hope they are just resting her.

well had she not intercepted for the own goal, there was a Pilot ready to receive the ball in back of her on the corner of the box. Charney?
Also, playing defense in the box running at your own goal is not high percentage defense.

KATU just played the replays of all tree scores. They looked just as sweet this time around. The player hanging on the far post on the own goal was either Sophie of Danielle -- too quick to really catch who.

Re: LMU @ Merlo 10/17/08
the gals looked very sharp up until they scored their first goal i thought. after that, they seemed ragged an a little listless. dani's second goal for me was reminescent of sinc with her low hard shot. i am not in any way comparing dani to sinc, it's just that shot reminded me of sinc.
i am becoming more an more impressed with hallie. i think the thing that strikes me most is her soccer i.q. how did eveyone love the give an go she had with keelin. an i still think that her an sophie have a special chemistry.
one last thought. i always notice the recruits though i've only been able to i.d. two of them, one with geez's help. tonight, there were six at the game an i saw something i have never seen before. when the gals game out for their final warm up, garrett had them come out to the field. never have seen that previously. an after the game, lauren motioned them to come out for the teams after the game huddle. it felt like a hard court press to me. i think these six the pilots really want.

Something no one has said so far about tonight's game: Sophie, once again, was fantastic.

upsf,
you are absolutely right about sophie!! she was great in this game! it's just there are so many things to comment on in each an every game, sometimes things slip the memory.
how about how sara took some of the corners for megan as was suggested in another thread for megan's leaping abilities? did any one notice that the first corner sara took in the second half, she went to stand in front of the keeper as is her usual position. but she looked at megan r. an megan pointed to the corner, indicating that sara should take the corner?

kelsey only made four saves, but she worked much harder then the stats would suggest. tonight was the most vocal i have heard her all this season.

Re: LMU @ Merlo 10/17/08
Kelsey of all people knows that defenses have to be flawless to win championships and she doesn't want to put the offense in the position of having to score more than one goal to win. I just worry that she is going to get high blood pressure with all that yelling.
I had a boss like that once and I said you should try to stay calm you are going to give yourself a heart attack and he told me. "I don't get heart attacks, I give them."

Speaking of volume, I liked that the defenders and Kassi in particular seemed intent on communicating assignments tonight. Maybe they are taking her "wall" statement to heart.

oh yea,
great picture!! i recognze it immedietly...that was dani's 2nd goal, the one she sloted low an wide a la christine. again, i will state that i do not think in any circumstances that dani is the next coming of sinc, just that the shot was sinc-like. low and hard!

Deja vu all over again!
The game last night was somewhat similar to the Gonzaga game.
Same starting line up. Pilots have game won by half time: shift to cruise control and pass the ball and maintain possession. Large number of subs sees everyone get playing time (OK - Michelle E was obviously rested for some reason; in uniform but did not participate in warm ups).
Everyone played well. Sophie and Megan R continue to show up as leaders; Michelle O quietly effective in the key holding midfield role. Great team defense: so many times last night if a LMU player got past the first defender there was another player covering and in quickly to snuff out the trouble.
Danielle is "the fox in the box", if the ball is there in the penalty area she is on it. She is a finisher and took her goals very nicely.
The first goal was beautiful; the passing and movement were superb.
Lots of soccer still to play this season, but think back to our concern once we found out that we'd be without the three amigas for the playoffs. UP has just played the first two WCC games and dispatched the opposition with clinical efficiency without the U20s, who only came on after the games were won.
OK, so Gonzaga and LMU are not UCLA, North Carolina or Notre Dame. But there were four freshmen and four sophs in the UP starting line up for these two games. Still learning and growing as a team. Nobody knows how good they can be. I'm looking forward to finding out.

Adam Linnman on the Audiocast was talking up Sara Jackman a whole lot. Said she was attacking and all over the place. She and Megan R. especially. (Mostly in the first half, I think.)
Any thoughts on Sara's game at left mid?

Also, how are Korie and Kassi playing together?
Seems to me this is a key tandem with Michelle O. moving to holding mid.

Sara J
Sara Jackman played pretty well. Probably better than against Gonzaga: as much a matter of confidence I suspect. She played all 90 minutes in Spokane (one of the few who did) and was likely to do so again yesterday but she picked up a knock late in the second half so came out. She walked off without any help so it could just have been a precaution.
She and Charney had discipline to stay wide and LMU gave them a lot of space out wide, which meant that they saw plenty of the ball. Sara is not especially quick, which is a bit of a worry because neither is Megan S. But she tackles well and plays within her limits - looks to control the ball and make good passes. She is not left footed, but she hit a perfect first time corss with her left foot for the first goal.
She's making a good case for holding down the left mid spot.
