Alumni Drum Squad
Figured I would start a new thread about this... big thanks to the alumni Ritmo Piloto guys who came on Sunday!!! I had forgotten what it was like to have a real drum squad with real rhythm out there. For me, that is what Merlo Field should sound like... it was amazing how hearing them totally brought me back to the earlier days at Merlo. I can only hope that the Villa guys heard it, were in awe and will try to learn how to do it themselves.
So thanks to all of them for coming and reminding us of what the drum squad can really be like!

Re: Alumni Drum Squad
I totally agree regarding the alumni drum squad. The fact that they came and stayed for both games and played those amazing rhythms throughout the day was awesome. I spoke with some of the members afterward and they had such a great time, and the fan reaction was so positive, they plan to make it an annual event. Now that's something to cheer about!!

I was talking to one of the Villa guys after the alumni left. He was surprised at how good they were and couldn't keep up with them.

Re: Alumni Drum Squad
Sunday was very special indeed! Not only for the Alumni drummers to play again but for something even more special......
We all came up with a new song for the day! "1 - 2 - 3 - more cowbell"
All of us over the hill drummers had no less than 12 cowbells in our percussion bags!

Re: Alumni Drum Squad
I had some nice dialog with the two Villa drum leaders and they are very interested in making the group sound better. Both of the leaders are juniors so they are hip to making it better for next season. They need help on a few fronts. Mostly they need drums and the education on how to respect them. (not beating the holy crap out of them and breaking them like most of theirs are)
I can understand the point of just getting 'college zany' and pounding the drum and singing till one looses his voice.... But, Pilot games are top level collegiate events that deserves the best on all fronts. Merlo field, one of the best. Take a look at this Pilot Nation; Bar none, the best college soccer fan sites in the world. Take a look at some of the great college teams in sports with pep bands that are awesome. Even Pilot basketball has a paid pep band. It's time for the school to step in and help the group sound like a group and not a mass of cacophony (def: 3. Music. frequent use of discords of a harshness and relationship difficult to understand.) A small bit of effort would make a big difference and make it sound like it should.

Re: Alumni Drum Squad
Yeah, earlier this year I asked PilotDrummer what those guys would do if they ever broke a head.
"They just turn the drum over," he said. "I've got a bunch of heads they busted at home."
That was me in the old school Pilot pinstripes, by the way.

That dude with the green tube in his mouth reminds me of my college days and nights ... Santana's tunes rocked then, too.

Not wrecked, but rear-ended someone on Willamette last week. Besides, I only ever drum on the steering wheel. That clutch pedal does not like being turned into my bass drum pedal!PurplePrideTrumpet wrote:You wrecked your car?
