My guess is attacking mid will be open to all and whoever gets it will have earned her "right to play"

I hope Megan returns to the center spot for the playoffs, if not before. I must say Charney has been taking shots, and her attacking skill will be vaulable the rest of the way -- and she can be a scorer. But Megan's sheer power and two-way play would demand she take the central role in crunch time. Seems like Coach Smith's chemistry experiment is still bubbling away.

Anyone vote for Enyeart as center mid next year? Auto Pilot is right; the slot will be earned in a tough competition.

You know it's a rough day for your team when you're naming the players who took shots.

The Gael's own student newspaper wasn't very kind to their team when they reported Sunday's game.

The Collegian

Their headline says we demolished them and said there team was daydreaming when Sophie scored her goal in the 46th second. The wort was this:
With the goal went any realistic chance for the Gaels to make the postseason tournament for women's soccer.

The rest of the description sounds like vintage patient ball possession soccer:

After the first goal in the first minute, the game grew lethargic. Portland kept the ball on the offensive end, and Saint Mary's would continually kick it away to the midfield, only for the ball to land at the feet of a Portland defender. This pattern only stopped when Portland decided to play some substitutes in the second half, but it did not help the Gaels much.

The eventual 3-0 result was the culmination of precise execution by Portland, and a lack of offensive enthusiasm by Saint Mary's. After it was all said and done, Danielle Foxhoven notched her 14th goal of the season off a penalty kick and Elli Reed scored her fifth as time ticked down on the match.

I hope that the Santa Clara paper comes up with a similar headline and tone for its upcoming story.

There will be some good energy for SCU, not everyone is in the know that they are limping a little bit this year and I would't expect them to go quietly into that dark night.

I'm with the Geez's earlier comments about not taking this game for granted. The only chance for any redemption for Santa Clara this year is Sunday's game. This is a vital game for the Pilots, too. I'm sure the coaching staff is approaching it that way. So let's be rabid fans and bring electricity to Merlo!
