UP vs. UW.... Proving real men do wear purple....
So just thought I'd scope out the future competition and start a little thread...
Isaiah Thomas.... 27 pts 9-12 FG, in only 19 mins?? Not a bad debut for a true freshman (even if it is against D-II competition). The Campbell/Thomas matchup could be VERY interesting to watch, but Thomas scares the hell out of me, its gonna be a long night for the Pilot backcourt keeping the gunner in check...
John Brockman is going to be a menace, 14pts 18 boards agains WWU... Honestly the best chance to contain him is getting him in foul trouble, it should be interesting to see how our boys can contain the leading returning rebounder in the country (And having Big John in the mix would also be nice...)
Pondexter/Dentmon... Pondexter is going to be the most athletic player on the court, and once he gets going can be difficult to stop, we just have to grab, bump, and generall frustrate him before he can get started... And Dentmon is the leader of the UW squad after Brockman, a 4 year starter veteran guard not to be underestimated (Had 18 pts on 7-10 shooting)
From what i can tell the WWU backcourd obviously struggled allowing 16-22 for the starting Husky backcourt, it will be interesting how we are able to use our depth at the position against a team that is looking at getting back to the dance this year. Should be a tough game and a good litmus test for Reveno to see what he has for the rest of the season...

I'm looking forward to the Campbell/Thomas mathcup too. Two shorter pointguards going at it. It should be a good game to test our depth. I can't picture any of our big men being able to guard Brockman. We seemed to match up against these guys okay last year though... Hopefully, we've improved as much as they have...

Re: UP vs. UW.... Proving real men do wear purple....
Good Comments! I believe you guys may be forgetting that Kramer held Brockman to 5 pt.s 10 rebounds last year , BEFORE getting Brockman to foul out. I think he will do just fine against him considering Rev said on a Podcast that he was waiting for the matchup as Kramer stretches Brockman's game out full-court. I think maybe a few high-light steals and dunks off of Brockman might may keep him from his usual double, double.I think Rev mentioned that Kramer held his own against some of the better bigger men in the country last year as true freshman thrown to the wolves. Just think we HAVE BIG Jasonn 6'10" 260lbs to spell Kramer this year, let's just hope Kramer doesnt get into silly foul trouble, huh??? I swear maybe we should nickname him Kramer "Hackman" Knutson which would apply to his fouls, or better yet inside intensity (Block's,Rebound's and Hustle). That's probably why the Players and Coach's named him the Most Valuable Defensive Player on the Team last year We also have to remember that Rev. specifically brought Campbell in for these type Pt guards (Mills,Johnson-San Diego, and Pargo) and I would wager their games are slightly better than a Prep School kid's game.Rev loves DEFENSIVE PLAYERS, and I think outside of Stohl he has'n recruited a weak defensive player (We all know Jared is basically our hired gunner off the bench for instant O !!! ).
IMHO the challenging part of the game will getting our two best all-round players Ravio, and Sikma off early, maybe Robin and/or Ethan too. I just don't think without Ethan,Ravio, etc laying down killer screens for Stohl he will be a factor because he has a VERY difficult time creating his own shot like the Nik,Luke ,Robin, and Ethan can. This is a Pac-10 team not D-3 Linfield it's reality time folks.
I think the Pilots start out their usual fast fashion, and if they play the rest of the game well they will give you game attendees something to cheer about. Posible even win ???
I'm taking attendance who's going to the game. No more excuses for you Stonehouse , It's Saturday Eve Game

Come on Stonehouse get some of these guys some tickets. I'll get you some next to the Ravio's,BJ's Dad,Ethans Parents etc...... when I make it up there. And their not behind the bench either (where you can't see anything when Jasonn or Big John create a solar Eclispe , as they stand up in front of you and cheer when their on the Bench).

Re: UP vs. UW.... Proving real men do wear purple....
A little write up on Isaiah Thomas from the Tacoma News Tribune:
http://www.thenewstribune.com/sports/story/536174.html
Eek!!! Coach Romar describes him as like Nate Robinson only he is "probably more skilled"?? Looks like it could be a VERY tough test for the Pilot back court. It will be interesting how long he flies under the national radar...

Re: UP vs. UW.... Proving real men do wear purple....
I think that both UP and UW have teams that will be on the rise in their respective conferences. Thomas and Abdul Gaddy mean that UW is set for guard play in the coming years, and I think that UP's conditioning will pay huge dividends too...
Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised at all to see completely different players lead us in scoring and rebounding than last year, especially since the physiques of so many of our guys other than Ravio and Sikma have changed.
