Re: Megan Rapinoe Named WCC Player of the Year!!!
Some other goodies from the press release:
After missing most of the last two seasons due to injury, Rapinoe stormed back with four goals and a conference-best 10 assists this year as the league’s top playmaker. She is the seventh Pilot in WCC history to earn the league’s player of the year award, following former UP standouts Angie Woznuk (2007), Christine Sinclair (2005, 04, 02), Erin Misaki (2000), Justi Baumgardt (1996), Shannon MacMillan (1995, 93), and Tiffeny Milbrett (1994, 92).
Foxhoven is the 10th Pilot overall and fourth consecutive to be named the WCC Freshman of the Year. She follows teammates Keelin Winters (2007), Michelle Enyeart (2006) and Megan Rapinoe (2005), as well as former UP standouts Lindsey Huie (2002), Christine Sinclair (2001), Michelle French (1995), Holly Pierce (1994), Justi Baumgardt (1993), and Shannon MacMillan (1992).

Re: Megan Rapinoe Named WCC Player of the Year!!!
Couple of things...
1) How great is it that Megan won? I feel just really, really good about that. It's been such a treat to see her come back from those devastating injuries... her determination and hard work have really been an inspiration this year.
2) Four WCC freshmen of the year in a row??? Just have to tip your hat to the coaching staff for that. Not only for recognizing and recruiting talent, but for putting them in a position to succeed as freshman.

I know. And Keelin honorable mention?
But when you think about it... they usually only played in the second half of games. And they each missed some games too... Michelle especially.
So... I guess it makes sense. If they're going from pure talent, obviously they are first-teamers. But if you're going on playing time and actual contribution to Portland's wins, well, I can understand.

Re: Megan Rapinoe Named WCC Player of the Year!!!
And if I am not mistaken these awards only take into account WCC matches. So makes sense that playing less than half of the WCC minutes they would fall down the chart. But what a great story that Megan was named the WCC player of the year... so deserving, I think she is finally back to top form, just in time.
Hope to see her back on with the full national team one of these days soon.

It should also be noted... we had 10 players earn recognition. Pretty darn impressive.

Quite impressive. We were well represented as we should have been being the convincing conference winners. However I know I am biased but we easily could have filled out the complete first team with our players. It is like the oscars some go for lifetime acheivment.

I'm very pleased that her 100% effort is being recognized, despite her not scoring a goal a game. Who votes on these awards? Coaches?

Re: Megan Rapinoe Named WCC Player of the Year!!!
I suppose it's a result of the aforementioned cut in PT once WCC play started... And while she may be a lock down player in the midfield there when she does play, that doesn't necessarily show up in the box score

The U20s did not start in the WCC games. They are playing in the World Cup right now. No biggie.

Re: Megan Rapinoe Named WCC Player of the Year!!!
Megan is so deserving of this award (and national awards as well). She is one of those players that makes everyone else on the team better when she is on the field. Her take-no-prisoners style of play is often breathtaking and is, no doubt, an inspiration to her teammates. It has been a pleasure to watch her over the years and I will miss her when she goes.

Seriously, DTR.
And Phantom, he is from Ontario, CA and went to Redlands East Valley HS...which is where you may be getting the Redding connection. But he's a SoCal kid.

Re: Megan Rapinoe Named WCC Player of the Year!!!
I can't let this topic go by without posting a word of personal affection and appreciation for Megan Rapinoe. It has been such a privilege to witness her play on the Bluff for the Pilots. We have enjoyed and admired the play of so many great Pilot women at Merlo Field - you all know who they are - but Megan is special in every way. I am so thankful she gets to finish her wonderful career playing her trademark game in the playoffs - only 6 wins away from another national championship to add to her future Pilot Hall of Fame resume. Thanks Megan, for everything. GO PILOTS!!
