UP-UW Game Day Thread
All right guys (and gals), it's time. Are you all in?
I think this game's going to be a test. As Kirk Mustain (guy who runs Bon Appetit) said to me last night, the first 10 minutes very well may tell us what our year will look like. Hopefully we look good on TV!
Tonight is also Dr. C memorial night. I heard rumors of purple wigs. As usual, you'll find me bangin' away behind the basket. No drum set for me tonight, though. I'll leave that in the hands of our experienced drummers.

Re: UP-UW Game Day Thread
Posting at 8:30 in the morning? Didn't go to bed last night?
I think this will be a very interesting game and I hope the Pilots keep it close.
Glad to see a tribute to Dr. C. tonight. I also want to see what the new shirts look like and play a little. I think the crowd will enjoy the new charts.
I'll be up at the top of 18a next to the tuba player. Just look for the ridiculously good-looking guy in PPT's avatar.

Re: UP-UW Game Day Thread
Went to bed at 1 - had a few out-of-towners over after the game and we got to...well...opening the bar.
Tonight should be fun. Best part of pep band sometimes is seeing what shirts they give us. No more Hawaiians!

Re: UP-UW Game Day Thread
I am going to try to make it to more Pilot basketball games this year, but won't be starting tonight. Staying at home to watch the epic RBNY vs. RSL match to see who gets into the MLS Cup against Columbus. But I'll be switching over to Comcast every now and then to see how we're doing...

You mean the Western Conference Final between RBNY and RSL?
I just read about the MLS playoff format last night. It could be more complicated, but just barely.

Re: UP-UW Game Day Thread
Not to derail the thread to soccer (because, really I don't not think there's enough soccer talk here already! ), but I think the logistics for that decision was that New York is WEST of Switzerland, where I think the Red Bull ownership group is based.

Austria actually.... The headquarters of Red Bull is just outside Salzburg, where they also own the team Red Bull Salzburg (they have the same uniforms and everything only Salzburg on their crest instead of NY)

Re: UP-UW Game Day Thread
oops. that's what i meant. i just get confused with that whole austria-switzerland thing...i mean, clearly so do they because they both had to host Euro 2008.
Aaaaaaaaanyway, back to the basketball thread. Excited to see what Campbell brings to the floor and what the "poster-boy for the strength and conditioning program" Jasonn Hannibal can do.

Re: UP-UW Game Day Thread
Haha no problem, I only know that because I know someone working at adidas with the soccer division AND I studied abroad in Salzburg...
but yeah Campbell vs Thomas should be very interesting. Honestly I think TJ has kind of floated under the radar with preseason analysis and whatnot, lets hope he can take advantage against the VERY publicized Thomas...

Re: UP-UW Game Day Thread
yeah, i can't believe i did that.
toggling back and forth to the game now, but this MLS game is mighty exciting. Chances squandered by both teams, so I hope the basketball games lives up to what I've been watching. Anyone going to the chatbox for the game tonight?

Great win! What a game to watch. The students had great reason to rush the floor.

Re: UP-UW Game Day Thread
Yeaah Baby! Our team has the longest winning streak in the nation(except NIT and NCCA winners), until we play our next game.
Well the Pilots should be proud, and I think its great the students got to storm the court ,it was long overdue for the students. I think the whole atmosphere of the game and the end will help the players with their team confidence.
I know it's only one game, but we might as well celebrate a little...

Re: UP-UW Game Day Thread
The Chiles Center looked packed on the student section side. Hopefully, with a win like this they continue to come out and support Pilot Basketball and the excitement doesn't dwindle. There's nothing like playing in front of an energetic and enthusiastic crowd to give the players an extra surge of adrenaline. I would say that kind of student support certainly factored into the Portland win...it's easy to play hard and have confidence with that many people cheering you on.

Wooo - HOOO!
great win! this makes up for the McCullogh era loss to them.
The best part for me was the hustle and good defense. Several guys were awesome!
And it looks like we finallyhave enough depth that we'll be able to hang with folks to the end in the tough ones.
I talked to Jim Shaw before the game. He said "I hear you guys are better" I said - "yeah I think we might surpise some folks this year."
Dr C would be proud...

Re: UP-UW Game Day Thread
Can I say how fun it was to turn and smile at the s*** talking, whining UW fans after the buzzer sounded??? I will say they did exit in an orderly fashion, apparently Seattle crowd control has improved since the WTO riots.... but I digress. Good total team game, "Needles" was a straight up assassin, "Cosmo" and "Double Dutch" made Brockman work for his points, and "Mmm Mmm" held his own against a very quick UW backcourt... And need we forget "3 Cheese" Raivo"li"s clutch free throws and utter assault on the lane??
Nothing was better than seeing the entralled "Steam Boat" jumping up and down in a crowd of UP students... Awesome game.
P.S. Venoy "I wish I was named after Benoit Benjamin" Overton filled Adam Morrison's void of college player I most love to hate.... Seriously, the kid make's Mark Few's whining seem dignified, his composure was a big reason why the dawgs lost that game. Thanks Venoy, come back soon!!

Re: UP-UW Game Day Thread
When the FTs started I went over to the end of the band section and started asking, "Where are you going? The game is not over! Support your team!" I don't think they liked that. Not that I care...
I thought the big men did a great job against Brockman at both ends. Knutson and Smeulders both hit some nice shots over him. As for this Thomas fellow I keep hearing about, I didn't notice anyone that stellar. Their #2 had some good moments, but there were times you could tell he was a freshman, so that couldn't have been Isaiah Thomas.
The last time I have seen our students rush the floor was when Kasey Flicker hit a 3 at the buzzer to beat USF in 96 (I think it was).
Oh, Annnngeloooo......paying attention to the Pilots now?

That was '94 or '95... I may or may not have been a part of said floor rushing after Flicker's *2* huge 3's at the end of that game...
Great W tonight!

Re: UP-UW Game Day Thread
I just remembered there were a few ruffians who ran onto the court after the Coky/Quick-era Pilots beat the Ducks at home. But that was just a small group.
The attendance given for last night was only 2617. I thought it would be higher, but it was a loud 2617.
