Triangle Park Update?
To that great collector of data in the Stonehouse: does this link suggest a resolution of the Triangle Park litigation. Note that it alludes to public comments being acccepted until December 08--my comment would be, hurry up, you have already taken two years since suit was furst filed.
Interested in an update and a response to the link:
http://yosemite.epa.gov/r10/cleanup.nsf/sites/trianglepark
There is a pdf settlement agreement linked in the article, dated in the fall of this year which may also indicate resolution or some movement toward it.
What do you know, Stonehouse? And, if settled, is there likelihood that the U will begin any building projects on the land in the foreseeable future?

Re: Triangle Park Update?
Ha ha... you're good, wrv!
All this means is that the EPA has approved the deal pending public comment. People have had 30 days to review the deal...with today being the last day with Wednesday the 10th being the last day!
As for the deal itself, no way to know. Hopefully this will be the final step and it will be resolved before the end of the year. But really we won't know until it's officially announced by the University.
As for building... it will probably take a couple of years before construction begins. Not only because a lot of money is committed up top (new dorm, Engineering building, bell tower, Commons expansion), but the economy isn't so hot right now and the school will still need to do some clean-up work and demolition.
The Triangle Park property (and, hopefully, the McCormick and Baxter property will follow pretty quickly after that) is more of a long-term investment than something that will give immediate gains.
Not that I know anything, but I wouldn't expect real construction to begin for 2-3 years after the school acquires the land.

Close, Stoney.
But the Federal register filing clearly states the comment period ends the 10th, which would be Wednesday.
and the EPA document sets a 25 month window for the cleanup to follow.

Ah! Oops... I was just going on what wrv had written earlier. If the Federal Register says the 10th, than the 10th it is.
For some light reading, you can see the whole settlement agreement.

Last week in the O there was a story on how local private colleges have to use their endowments more carefully in these times. Fr. Beauchamp was quoted briefly, saying basically that some projects in the planning stages might be put off.

Yeah... the new dorm and the Engineering building will definitely be completed. And from what I can tell, the bell tower is being totally funded from a gift, though it's possible that gift was from stocks or other investments, etc. Don't know about expanding the Commons though... maybe that one will go on hold for a bit.

Re: Triangle Park Update?
the commons is on hold. which sucks. Right now it takes almost 20 minutes of lines just to get food during some points. Add 300 more students with the new dorm and its just asking for unhappy students. Something needs to be done

Add a food line. It doesn't take a new building to feed people more efficiently.

Re: Triangle Park Update?
You can extend the hours too... more hours for dinner might help. Is it still only 5-7?
But still... if kids are smart, they can avoid lines. Don't go to lunch right after class... wait for the middle of the class periods. And show up for dinner early... if you get there at 5 or a bit after, there are never lines. (Well, except for Mongolian Grill night. Those lines were always ridiculous.)
Still, bummer to hear that the expansion is on hold. But understandable, given the economic climate. And of all the projects upcoming, that's the one that can most effectively be put on hold and dealt with through other means. (Well, of course the bell tower is mainly vanity, but if someone else is writing all the checks for it, you may as well proceed.)

Re: Triangle Park Update?
haha, things have definitely changed, First of all, at times it can be tough not to go right after class, for example on tuesdays and thursdays when i have class from 8:10-12:45, i only have one option. now thats not the case for all people i understand. Also, between 5-6, the commons is the worst, if you want to avoid lines, 6:30 is the time to go. and it would be counterproductive for them to add a food line seeing as they just took one away last year. The bottom line is that there usually is one station with really long lines. looks like they have til august to figure it out. I'm sure they can get something together, still a bummer though

Re: Triangle Park Update?
Oh man, you're making me feel old. Are people really lining up outside the doors at 5? That's crazy. That was always the best time to go.
Anyway, pp13... you mentioned you work for The Beacon... you should get cracking on an article about it!
Also... there was talk about converting the lounge in Hegarty Hall into a coffee shop for the students living in the Village and the new dorms (Schoenfeldt Hall and Fields Hall... guess I have to get used to calling them that). I think that's a great idea - that lounge is kind of useless anyway, it would be awesome for kids to have at least some place to get some drinks/snacks on that side of the campus without having to go all the way over to the Cove, especially now that Mack's Market (RIP) is gone. Have you heard any updates about that?

Shoenfeldt Hall...are they going to call it that, or the Padre Pad?
Fields Hall...I assume that is named after Kevin Field...
