Re: Gonzaga - Portland State...WTF?!
I enjoyed this score. One more time the Zag fan's can blame off-night,Few or player. They would never say JD tore them up or that PSU played well and was the better team last night.
Three losse's this year. Was it not about 5 games ago Matt Bouldin was bragging about how they will probably go unbeaten. TEE HEE . I bet he's feeling like a j-ass now. 3 losse's and counting.......

So that it does not go unstated, PSU has two former Pilots playing prominent roles. How could we do other than cheer for the Vikings. I agree, the conference takes a back seat here. Go Viks, great job and good luck in the Big Sky. Dominguez was a huge loss to this program . . .and a great get for the Viks. He was a force on the court last night.

Don't get me wrong, I love watching the 'Zags fail. Just not something I expected.

Re: Gonzaga - Portland State...WTF?!
I just thought of a reason. They were distracted with helping the Vikings travel to Spokane in this weather. And of course, the Vikings spent all day on a bus yesterday so they were ready to release all the energy when they got to the gym.MesaPilot1 wrote:I enjoyed this score. And if they think Few can't get it done...there's a Pac-10 school down here with a new arena opening up and an AD who is friends with Few...Just sayin'...

I'd rather that Gonzaga keep winning until we play them. Also, there's only room for one major basketball team in the city of Portland IMO. Victories by PSU won't help us in recruiting. No offense PSU; I say that out of respect.

PSU doesn't need to recruit, they just pick up former Pilots.

Re: Gonzaga - Portland State...WTF?!
Hard to believe a player looking for a college experience like UP's would ever consider PSU, and vice versa. The two schools couldn't be more different. Not saying one is better, they are just totally different. Of course, if a prospect never looks past the gym door to see what the total college experience will be like . . .

They seem to pick up former Huskies too. Their coach and two of their best players came from UW.

Gonzaga's loss to Utah tonight is not going to help the WCC gain much respect... Even if they are a rival, it would be nice for one team to remain ranked in the top 25 for UP, St. Mary's, or San Diego to upset.

yeah.... Losing 4 of 5.... Not exactly the way the Zags planned on rolling into the conference... Hopefully they can save face against Tennessee next week, but it could be a tough chore in Knoxville...

Actually, in terms of RPI, the zags haven't been in the top 25 for several days. They were 27 before tonight's defeat they are 32 right now, and you can expect they will drop a bit more at the end of this round of games.
St. Mary's, on the other hand, is currently at 14. They were as high as 11 a day ago.
UP is now at 114, up from the 170's a week or so ago.

Maybe I'm just bitter, but I can't pretend that I'm not happy to see the Zags lose. I'll root for any other team in the conference, but not them.

I can respect that. We'll be lucky to have more than one or two teams from the WCC to make the tourney this year though. Love or hate Gonzaga, their schedule has been by far the toughest in the WCC so far... No way 3 teams make it again IMO. The respect of the conference has to continue to rise if Seattle U is going to come aboard anytime in the near future.

Doesn't the conference have a chance of getting more teams into the tourney if Gonzaga ISN'T on top? They have a better chance of getting into the 64 than other teams, it seems to me.

Re: Gonzaga - Portland State...WTF?!
I think Geezer may be right. Looks like just 2 teams from WCC this year in NCAA's. The only way we could make it is if Ravio's older brother came to play for us or Nik kept scoring 30 a game , Sikma played like his dad at that little college in Ilinois,TJ averaged 10 assists a game, Stohl 15 pts. (3 treys), Robin POW of WCC a couple more times. And Kramer and Ethan kept doing the "little" things that don't show up on Stat chart, basically the "enforcers'.
Maybe a few of those things could happen each game, but I think a realistic goal would be the NIT. Winning record, few good upsets. The liability would be the tiny attendance and lack of student support.Oh well, they could always play an "away" game in the NIT.
I shudder to think of the first WCC game in the Kennel. I just hope the young men can get a quick start,, and keep it competive so they have a chance. Otherwise us Pilot fans will be in for a long, agonizing game
