Ads...
I'm just curious, but when I'm logged in I see no ads, but when I get logged out and visit, Google ads appear on the top... Is this a new thing, or am I just REALLY unobservant???

Re: Ads...
Naw, you ARE observant. We have to "buy" the option to hide the ads (thus why we ask for occasional donations), and buy them in 6 or 12 month increments, and we can buy the option to hide them for just registered/signed in members or all visitors/guests/lurkers...
Thanks to you pointing it out, as the option to hide for guests/unregistereds had lapsed... I have corrected that. Thanks for pointing it out... I hardly ever visit the site without being logged in (so I get all the cool Mod features, like free cocktails and HD game highlights ).
And, no, that doesnt mean I owe you another beer...

Haha I normally am logged in and assumed it was just because I wasn't... I wouldn't dare claim another beer anyway, I'm perfectly happy knowing that my watchdog behavior makes me a moderator of the moderators.... or something like that

Re: Ads...
So, we are currently paid up thru Feb 2019 for hiding ads for members when signed in... but we are currently showing ads to non-members. The cost to hide ads for non-members is 2,000 credits per year, which equals about $23.00/year.
We have used up all of the credits that have been donated over time... so if a few folks would like to make a donation, we can hide the ads again--I think the site looks much better without ads.
You can find the link to donate (paypal, credit card) under the main logo at the top of the page if you feel so inclined...

Re: Ads...
The process for buying credits has apparently changed... I need to research further before making this request.

Re: Ads...
The donate tab has been inop for at least seven years, PNut.
If those who are NON-member are the only ones to see ads, isn't that at least some insentive to become a member and contribute their thoughts, ideas, and information?

Happy to donate once the link is fixed. I love this forum and feel I owe it more than just my posts! Plus, how else would I get my up-to-date news for all things Pilots?!

If I buy you a bucket or two of beers next year, can you front the money for more credits?

Re: Ads...
The ads when not signed in wouldn't bother me except that I seem to get logged out at least a couple times a week. I'm happy to donate as well.

Re: Ads...
My initial research indicates that this will not be an easy fix (restoring the functionality of the donate button). I think I can still make the purchase however. Stay tuned... if the donate button disappears, you will know why.

Re: Ads...
If you can't get it fixed then I am sure we could still PayPal you for the cost or something. I would enjoy seeing my screen name in gold!
Actually, clicking those links down at the bottom and I saw many familiar names whom I haven't seen post in a long time!

Re: Ads...
At least on BigSoccer I get a free iPad Pro or big screen TV if I just click “OK”
The only workaround I’ve found I to go into “mobile version “ to sign in.

No, my pop ups are all for porn
Seriously though, no ads as long as I'm logged in.

Same for me, but once I'm logged out the ads cover the login information so I am no longer able to login on my phone or tablet. I'm more tnan willing to donate to eliminate the ads once a method is figured out

I get that for the regular website, must if I switch to the mobile version the ads either don’t appear or aren’t covering the logging window.
The answer might just be to move the login window.
On bigsoccer the whole screen freezes. The only solution is to close the browser, start over, and hope the pop up doesn’t reappear.

Re: Ads...
I have bought and spent credits to get rid of the ads for non-members. Someone can buy me a beer at some point...
I really encourage those who have not registered to do so--the site will track which posts you have read and the logo P's on each forum change color to alert you of new posts since your last visit. You can also post and utilize web links. We do not send spam emails. You can also set your account to sign in with your Facebook credentials. Also, we would love to hear from you!
If you need help signing up, have issues activating your account, need your password reset, etc., you can use any of the "contact" links to send a note to me and I will do my best.
I also looked into HTTPS. That is possible, but not a simple project... maybe down the road.

Re: Ads...
Thank you, sir...it won't be that much longer before I can actually buy you a beer...
I also encourage others to register and eventually become a contributor or to simply ask a question that could get a discussion going.
In my first months as a student at UP I was a just a "lurker," but now I've found I can even contribute on occasion.
Recently I even got 2 highly discounted airline tickets (90% off) to Las Vegas from a PN contributor just for asking a question about the WCC Tournament.
Seems I'm always talking to someone who counts on PilotNation for the kind of Pilots news and discussion they cant find anywhere else. If you're one of those people, don't you think it's about time you stepped-up and contributed too?!

Re: Ads...
I have renewed our ad-free status for another year--there should not be any ads for members or non-members/non-signed in folks.
Hopefully there will be more good things to post about in 2019-2020...

Hmmm, well it has been a year alright.
We are up for our annual ads renewal... it costs around $70/year to remove ads. Is it worth it?
Re: Ads...
Yes, it's worth it, or PilotNation can be just like all the other crappy fan sites with ads.Admin wrote:Hmmm, well it has been a year alright.

Is there a difference in the cost if it's ad-free for registered users only? If so, it might be an incentive for lurkers to register.
Two years ago it was just 2000 credits/$23 to exterminate the ads for all users... there's been a 300% increase?
The "Donate" tab disappeared a few years back. Bitcoins, a check, cash...let me know.

I’m happy to contribute as well if needed. Love coming to this pro-Pilot community. Like, DD, I noticed that the donate tab disappeared. Wouldn’t mind seeing my name in gold!

FloridaPilot, I notice you've now made 666 posts... I'm back in Puerto Rico, but the devil's virus (that's what some here are calling it) is getting much worse, how about in Florida? I'm thinking of returning to the States, but don't know where to go.
Is it a good time of year to visit the oil fracking Dakotas?
