Re: We Win !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just a HUGE, HUGE win. I think we all deserve to enjoy this one thorougly tonight. I'm really wishing I had a Cuban cigar right now and could do the Red Auerbach thing. I'd say we're due for some good times. Lord knows we've paid our dues as faithful fans for a long time.
Rev is really doing an outstanding job with these young men and to their credit, they've completely bought into his system and worked really, really hard through a lot of adversity.
GO PILOTS !!!

Nice. Rev is the man. He seems to be getting the most out of our talent this year. These kinds of victories are going to start to pay dividends for future recruiting...

Awesome, awesome, awesome win!!!
Portland got out to the lead early and never let San Diego into it once we got up by 10 or so. Our defense was a thing of beauty last night, and what can you say about Nik, TJ, Jared, and Luke... just awesome games all around.
I am so happy and proud... I've been waiting for this for years and years, and it's finally in place.
Guys... WE'RE GOOD!!!!!!!!

What a win! The Pilots controlled this game from the tip... we were NOT going to lost the game.
Our defense was stellar... Stohl was money... inside the 3-line, too... Luke and Nik.... really, a great night all around. Rev is the man.
With several spots to fill for 2010-2011, these wins now will pay huge dividends for recruiting, as you stated!

It was also pretty nice knowing BJ wasn't going to shoot some crazy **s shot falling out of bounds at the buzzer.

Re: We Win !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Luke and Jared coming off the bench to score 28, while USD's bench gets zero, was huge. Not only did both guys have VERY efficient games, but they are the cool heads, too. Jared pulled Robin out of trouble when he looked to be heading for a 'T', and Luke did the same thing for Nik.
Saturday night now is very interesting, maybe a chance to steal a win. SMC may be down assuming GU finishes out their game, especially if Mills can't go.

Re: We Win !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I took glee is the way several players played- very smart, and the defense was stifling.
Jared played great "D" was perfect from the field, from the arc and from the line. I especially like how he went inside on his man when he overcommitted, then cooli knock down shots near the paint twice. We didn't see that last year.
Nik is definitely in the stud category know. he can make things work when nothing else does.
TJ ran the team to perfection and knocked down clutch threes that put the game away.
And the Big guys were great by committee. It's great to see the OTHER team worn out with nothing left at the end. The last few years we were the team with no depth. Now we can just keep putting it to people.
Luke particularly is showing some of the promise he showed at the beginning of last year.
Great win.
St. Mary's will be tough Patty or no Patty. One game at a time.

Re: We Win !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Listened to the postgame show on the way home. Stat of the night: Pilot bench 28, USD bench 0. As in ZERO.
Awesome how the Pilots did not let USD cut into the lead in the second half. There was a timeout at about the 11 minute mark where I realized they were up by as much as they started the half. Pretty good feeling compared to the SCU game.
And then there was Stonehouse with the nice midair grab to score a free hot dog!

I loved when Jared ducked under the defender flying at him, then knocked down the three. Great play.

Hey, that little brat had it coming.
I actually ended up giving away the free dog... was too stuffed from pre-game pasta buffet and half-time Pilot Club snacks.
My favorite play from tonight, or at least one that really sticks out in my memory... Ethan canning that three from the corner as the shot clock expired. That was so huge... we were only up 7 or 8 at the time (kinda early in the second half), and due to fouls/rest we had kind of an offensively challenged lineup in. That shot was just so huge... put us back up double-digits, which means that our lead didn't dwindle when TJ, Nik and Kramer were out of the game. A small thing, but so big.
But really... how awesome is TJ Campbell? I just love the guy... his passing, his confident shooting... man. What a stud.
And Nik is just in the zone right now - he carried the offense in the first half and is just so tough on the boards. He's really coming into his own right now.
And I thought Luke easily had his best all-around game of the year. He was all over the place and seemed to be making plays every minute or two.
And Jared... what can you say? The guy didn't miss all night.

Re: We Win !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Seriously, so many "game balls" to give out tonight... Jared, TJ, Luke, Nik... Eric played well, Jasonn had some good/important boards, Robin took it to the hoop with authority... But Jared's 3, after ducking the defender was a thing of beauty... that is my play of the game.
Wow. A great effort up and down the bench! This game was never really in doubt--credit the team for keeping their foot on the gas all game and not letting USD make a run (they only cut the lead to 7 or 8.... and we quickly pushed it back to 14-15). So many things to compliment!

Re: We Win !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
how often does a guy off the bench get a shadow like teams are doing with jared after his huge game the other week. It was nice to seem him ajust this game compared to the SCU where he just stood around the arc waiting for his shot. He was really using his picks well. I loved the little curl he did with about 6 minutes left when ginty was guarding him, at the dead ball, billy ripped into him, it was great. I've always though Jared could be a reggie miller type player, not the strongest, but if he continues to use screens and pump fake like he has, he's on the right track.
other notes from my view, eric played well while tj was on the bench. Anytime you can have a freshman come in and chew up minutes, without making mistakes is huge. Tai has lost all confidence in his shot, its been that way for a while now, but i remember as a freshman, he was a very promising player, now he has turned into a good leader, but he never looks for his shot. there were a few times when i thought nik forced his shot, especially in the second half but that happens when you become the go to guy. my favorite play of the game, TJ passed to robin after his man switched, Robin faked from just inside the three drove into the lane and caught the San Diego defense sleeping, the defender was way late and Robin Made the basket plus one. At least Robin isn't averaging a T a game anymore!!!
Fun basketball to watch all around. Rob Jones did posterize Robin once, and also Trumaine Johnson had a sweet play where he split the double team, and bounce passed to someone for a layup. He's a decent player, if he could get his act together.

Re: We Win !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow! The first thing I did when I got up was check to see what happened last night. I was quite anxious. When I opened portlandpilots.com I gave a little fist pump and cheered out loud. That was a great win. Makes Saturday absolutely huge, second place and possibly (unlikely) a tie for first is on the line. This is the "wait for next" season most of us Pilot Nationers have been looking forward to for years now. Congrats to the guys, hope they can keep the streak alive in front of a huge crowd on Friday!

Re: We Win !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So, I finally looked at the boxscore (I've been quite busy this morning with watching the tennis match and napping). The line I really liked was Luke Sikma's. 14pts 6reb 4ast 4-6fg 4-4ft 2st and 1blk. Filling up the stat sheet. I only watched a couple games last year (I am thinking BYU and OSU, I think, well, and Gonzaga) anyway, Sikma really impressed me. But this year, with that preseason injury, it seems he never got in the flow. But from what I saw from him last year, this is the kind of game I was expecting from him this whole year. It was good to see (or read about) and hopefully he is fully recovered. This could be a very dangerous team in the WCC tourney. I wish I could go. Anyway, that the the opinion of a fan who has seen like 8 games in the last two years...

Re: We Win !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Indeed, Luke had an AWESOME night last night. But Jared really stuck out to me... when he didnt have an open 3-shot, he drove... his passes were solid, and played good defense. Jared has come so far this year...
Granted TJ has been a huge addition to the team, but kudos to the coaching staff for developing these guys into solid players.
And let me remind you that there is not a senior amongst them....

Re: We Win !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So are you going?
Maybe I could work security at the event. I do have a criminal justice degree from a participating school. That should be good enough right?
Supposedly I have a job lined up...but if that doesn't work out...I may just have to fly out to Vegas. Then I will be only a one way flight away from having a free round tripper with Southwest!
Or I could just hope they win and get in a pod with a team that will be put in Boston for the NCAA tourney...

I was glad the officials were able to single him out to "hammer" with a T. Give him credit, though--he played a lot of minutes so he's obviously too legit to quit.purplepride13 wrote:
