Random Dig From Andy Katz
Um... wow:
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?name=katz_andy
I know Katz is reallyt buddy-buddy with Few... but seriously? What does it even mean "The Pilots were building the matchup as a showdown for first?" It WAS a showdown for first. I mean come on... what's with the snark? So needless.
I want to give Katz the benefit of the doubt because I love the fact that he actually pays attention to the WCC and other midmajors, but he has proven time and time again that he is just a mouthpiece and shill for Few.
Portland can probably quiet down about winning the WCC. The Pilots were building the matchup against Gonzaga as a showdown for first. Gonzaga won by 15.

I read that earlier... Haha it WAS a battle for first, not contrived voodoo invented by the marketing department. Shame on you Andy Katz, shame on you...

Re: Random Dig From Andy Katz
If you want to get technical, it was a battle for co-first. I love when people say stuff after the fact. Yes, after the game Gonzaga has a two game lead in the WCC and the final score was a fifteen point difference. But before the buzzer sounded, first place was up for grabs.

Re: Random Dig From Andy Katz
He must have something against Rev. or the someone associated with the athletic department. Maybe I was asleep for a week, but the excitement of a well-played interconference game was what it was all about.(Sure a tie was at stake) Geez, there's so many games left in WCC play.If one were to listen to him,we just took our last shot in Pepperdine WCC game last year. Maybe if there were no conference tourney and the game unfolded a totally different way those coment's would be warranted. He must have gotten cranky after licking Mike Brey (N.D. coach) shoe's.
I agree that it's nice to see Mid-Major coverage. That still doesnt change the fact he's an narsistic, egomanical putz or a Gonzaga "shill".

Re: Random Dig From Andy Katz
Final score difference in basket ball is pretty meaningless anyway. As I recall the margin was 6 with under five minutes to go. Pressing and fouling in the last minutes to catch up often lead to breakaways and free throws that stretch the lead. I guess you could play for style points, and keep the game close but not try to win. Maybe that's how Mr. Katz would play the game.

Re: Random Dig From Andy Katz
Any comment that has Portland in the context of winning the WCC, however, is pretty cool... but yeah, Katz is a tool, since he probably didnt even watch the game...

That is the whole problem. That game started out here at 11pm. I am pretty sure Rochin54 and I made up about 25% of the EST Audience. So most of the ESPN talking heads see the final score and the stats and just presume that Gonzaga had that lead the whole way. If you saw the SportCenter highlights Fri. morning they sounded as if Gonzaga had a cakewalk, which we all know they didn't. If ESPN really wanted to do justice to sports reporting, they would move their headquarters our west and the anchors, analysts and what-not could actually watch games.

Re: Random Dig From Andy Katz
He does worship Few, no question. And techinically, it was a battle for co-first place, as someone else mentioned. I'm used to the media bashing teams I root for, so this is miniscule compared to some of the other crap that I read and listen to on a daily basis from ESPN. ESPN has become style over substance in their coverage, and it's gotten progressively worse over the last 10 years or so.

Re: Random Dig From Andy Katz
I have not read the ESPN site regularly in several years now. This is another reason not to. Mostly ESPN hypes to death whatever big game is on that week. Their analysis doesn't need to be that in-depth because they think fans will trust whatever "the Worldwide Leader" tells them.
When there is a game on ESPN, I watch. When there are actual highlights on Sportscenter, I watch those. When the talking heads come on and open their mouths I turn the station.

ESPN has become the TMZ of college athletic entertainment. Regretably there is no viable subsitute. Maybe the WCC ought to hire Vince McMahon of the WWF to do its promotions. Personally would like to see a ladder match between Geezer and Katz.

What about the Big10 network? That only shows college sports.
Seriously, I love the Big 10 network because the only time I really ever watched it was when Appalacian State beat Michigan a couple year ago. Man, I love watching Big 10 teams lose, that must be why tOSU is my favorite team!
