Start Planning for Vegas 2010 RIGHT NOW
I could be wrong, but it seems to me like having the tournament in Vegas was a big success and I assume the conference will do it there again next year. So with that in mind, and knowing that Portland should have a strong team next year... start saving/planning on going to Vegas NOW! There was a decent Portland contingent in 2009 but I know we can do way better. I think heading into this season no one really knew what to expect in terms of our team. But now that we know the Pilots are competitive and should be battling for a high seed, really there's no reason not to start penciling in plans to go!!!

In. And if I back out, Rochin54 gets my Coky jersey, Stoney gets my black game worn Pilots shorts and mattywizz gets my size 15 grey timberland boots signed by Donald Wilson..
In other words, I am NOT backing out this time.

Re: Start Planning for Vegas 2010 RIGHT NOW
Great thread to start, Stoney. This year's vegas version of the tourney was great... the atmosphere at the games and in the casino/hotel were awesome! The Orleans is a great spot to be host... close enough to the strip, huge casino, affordable rooms, and the $6.25 bucket of beers!
There is really no reason NOT to go next year... we will be a title contender for sure.
GO PILOTS!

Re: Start Planning for Vegas 2010 RIGHT NOW
When buying all session passes, do they ask what school you're watching so that you can sit with fellow fans, or do you just move to sit with the other fans, OR is it general seating (I'd find that hard to believe).

You can buy tickets through UP, which assures your seats amongst the purple folks. If you order through the Orleans, I suppose you can request that you be nearby, but you are MUCH better off going through UP... start looking for information on tourney tickets in mid to late September & October...

Thanks PilotNut!
I definitely hope to be there next year (assuming they keep it in Vegas), especially since I'll be old enough to enjoy all that Vegas has to offer.

If you buy through UP's ticket office your seat will be in the section that UP was given. This means if you are from a certain other school I will not mention and you buy season tickets to UP just so you can get WCC Tournament tickets the real UP fans around you at the tournament will know what kind of shenanigans you're pulling.
I'm just telling you a rumor I've heard about Gonz...errr....certain fans, mind you.

Shipstad11... you're a student, right? I think they have special student deals that you can buy through the school.
But honestly only a game involving Gonzaga will be close to full (since the GU fans tend to not watch the other games), so for both UP games down there this time all the students and young alums all just sat together and no one checked any tickets at all.

Hey Stonehosue, I am, indeed, a student (and PROUD of it) and I will be sure to go through Chiles to get tickets. I'm guessing that transportation could be the most expensive part of the deal. But I've certainly got some time to figure it out.

Re: Start Planning for Vegas 2010 RIGHT NOW
In my day it was the ol' thumb out and a free ride. Can't do that anymore it's too dangerous. The guy's on here that have been there as student's have great idea's.
I heard Kramer's brother won the dance contest in the nightclub but there was so many fan's from Gonzaga that they had to declare it a tie for fear of a riot with all those wanker's from up North. So even non-alumni had ton's of fun this year. Did you see all those fan's of Portland lifting Clay up while he did pushup's on the big screen. That was one of the best student move's in college basketball. I wonder what Rev. thought of that if he watched the ESPN tapes. He's a pretty serious guy,but if he saw that I bet he had a little smile on his face, lol.
I'm so jealous of you guy's,darn it I had to back out with a last minute family emergency .

I really like the idea of a Pilot Nation t-shirt... whether specific to any event or a general shirt... everyone start thinking of designs. This sounds like a great project for the slow summer months, and get us set up for the amazing upcoming soccer & hoops seasons...

Re: Start Planning for Vegas 2010 RIGHT NOW
Haha I could do one based off the original Purple Pride logo..... It does use the Pinwheel, but there's no copyright on it so we can use it as we please...
Obviously it would say Pilot on top and Nation on the bottom.... It's kind of a clean old school look, but I like it...
I know when we did it originally we ordered like 150 shirts and it came down to 8 bones a shirt (using the cheapest shirt possible, but hey we were in college and my shirt still holds up)... Due to demand we had to get new batches several times...

I'm already there... started planning last night.
I can't wait! I've only been to Las Vegas once in my life, and that was in 1996, before most of the present day Vegas was born.

Re the shirt, my son took a screen printing class. Perhaps I could get some help from him.

Re: Start Planning for Vegas 2010 RIGHT NOW
Like I said in another thread, my parents went and had a great time. They are trying to get the rest of our family to go as well, which I don't think will be hard. They are Zags (my mom is an alum), but they went to all the Portland semi-final games (both of them), and had a great time. I think my mom wore her purple UP shirt, too. She was pissed at all the Zag fans who left after their semi-final game, instead of sticking around for UP-St. Mary's.
I have talked to a couple of other alums, and they want to go next year, too. They biggest surprise to them was that the tournament was in Las Vegas. I got a text from a friend who used to be on the women's b-ball team last Thursday saying "holy crap?!? The tournament is in vegas?" I don't know how that news escaped her, but it did. I think with both teams' success this year, and the success of the tournament in Vegas, it should virtually guarantee it will be there next year. If so, I am pretty sure there will be many more Pilot fans in the house.

I'M THERE, if I have to HITCHHIKE and stay at the KOA campground. Or steal Stonehouse's ticket, whatever it take's. No senior's better team next year, unless the floor fall's out under them .

Re: Start Planning for Vegas 2010 RIGHT NOW
Can you imagine the team next year with Nik and TJ leading the way. Stohl off the bench for his shooting. Ethan finally healthy. Big John's high-low passing and Defense with Robin,Luke and Kramer "the big's". BJ , Eric off the bench and Tashi,Jasonn when needed.Wowwee!! Whoopee!!!
Another summer of UNITY down under, Rev. and staff, not letting them get cocky or complacent. Good thing's are beginning for Portland Pilot Basketball!!!
Don't forget another summer of weight and flexibility training with the conditioning coach.Watch out for Stohl's "gun's" next fall.

Re: Start Planning for Vegas 2010 RIGHT NOW
My family is actually going to Vegas later this year for my grandma's birthday. Maybe I can convince her that her birthday is in March (she is turning 80...) Or even better, I WILL go twice.
I really wanted to go this year, but it is hard to plan a trip when you move three times in two months...anyway, excuses are like armpits, I know.
I don't even like Vegas all that much, but I like the tourney being at a Neutral site. I will be there (or wherever the tourney is) selling my own homemade Pilot T-Shirts.
