Alfred Kipchumba in 5K Finals
Alfred Kipchumba ran very well in his preliminary heat of the 5K. He runs in the finals today. Regardless of the result he has had a tremendous season. The cross country team should have another great year in the fall.

Just a reminder... all the races are being shown on line at NCAA.com
THIS LINK should get you there
I think Alfred runs around 6 :40 (Pacific) tonight.

Re: Alfred Kipchumba in 5K Finals
For sure... but I don't get why he's listed as a sophomore. I'm almost 100% positive he's a true freshman.
Either way, it's a great accomplishment for him. Can't wait to see how his Pilot career develops.

Re: Alfred Kipchumba in 5K Finals
Alfred finished out a great inaugural year on the bluff with a 12th place finish in the 5000!
I think Stoney is right about him being a true freshman, and he on the team roster as such. That would put him as the highest placing freshman in the field, and the fastest freshman in the country!
I see nothing but great things for him and the rest of the team in the next few years...
Congrat's also to Galen Rupp for doubling up after winning the 10K yesterday. somebody stepped on his shoe and he stopped to put it back on and still won!
Here's the results:

Re: Alfred Kipchumba in 5K Finals
Geez, I hate to burst your bubble, but Chris Derrick, who finished third is listed as a Freshman. Being the second fastest freshman is very impressive.
I am very excited about the future of Kipchumba and the rest of the Pilot track/cross country team.

Re: Alfred Kipchumba in 5K Finals
Chris Derrick really is a freshman. He set the American junior record in the 5K earlier this year, he's no joke.
Looks like the final went out slow, as Rupp won it in 14 flat but his last mile was 4:00.

Re: Alfred Kipchumba in 5K Finals
I don't know if this was missed, or just not mentioned, but we also had a female competitor at the Championships.

Sifrash Ademe finished 22nd in the 10,000.
