The Pilots may be recruiting a player with prettygood bloodlines.
Jordan Gathers from Loyola H.S. Los Angleles, Scouts describe him 6' 1" , 160. OTHERS AS 6' 2' to 6' 3' 180 - 190. Ave jr yr nearly 11 pts/gm, 50% from the floor, good passer and defender annd good in the open court.A nephew of Hank.
Schools of interest USC, Ducks, Pilots and one other.May be a possibility.

Sounds sweet. LMU had a bad year; I don't blame him for not wanting to follow in Hank's footsteps...

High rated preferred walk on out of Colorado coming to Pilot
Heard from East coast friend about a kid named Mivschek who passed on schools back there to come to Portland. Doug watched him play at Phillips Exeter Academy this year where he was MVP for them in the very tough Prep Elite League. He was also two time all-state player in Colorado. Shooting guard, but thats all I know.

IF this is a player on Portland's mind???
Dakota "Cody" Mivsek
6'1" , 175lbs
Fossil Ridge HS 2008 , Fort Collins,Colorado
One year at Phillips Exeter Academy -all it said was he averaged 5.5 assists
Maybe someone else can find more. Maybe he would be a good walk-on who know's???

Re: possible recruit
Wow... very interesting. Here's what I found:
Mivshek Takes Preffered Walk-on Spot at University of Portland
http://www.newenglandrecruitingreport.com/news/article/794/Commitment-CatchUp.php
Looks like we utilized coach Wolf's New England prep school connection again (already helped land Hegarty and Waterford).
I like it. It's better than just leaving the roster spot open for next year, yet it also doesn't necessarily commit us to locking up that scholarship spot for the next four years. Reminds me a lot of the Parker Emerson situation - he'll be given a chance to earn a scholarship.
Might be tough for him to get minutes though behind Campbell, Waterford, Ito, Stohl, and Raivio. Of course, if he really is a great perimiter shooter with good range, maybe he'll be like a Jared Stohl 2.0. I'd be very happy with that!

Cody Mivshek has accepted a preferred walk-on spot at the University of Portland. Mivshek is a very good perimeter shooter with great range on his jumper. He’s also a physically tough player who plays much bigger than he is on the glass. He spent the majority of the year in the starting line-up for class A Exeter and proved himself to be a scholarship level talent. The Colorado native was always said to be hoping to return to the west coast.

I'll go to his place tomorrow and have him run some drills. Make sure crazy Tim Miles isn't snooping around his neighborhood.MesaPilot1 wrote:

Re: possible recruit
so i may have done some facebook stalking and found out he knew he was coming here back in april, so my question is, how come no one discovered this until right now.
and since when he decided to come, there were no scholarship spots open, what will happen with that

Hmmmm... very interesting. So he was invited to walk-on before Hegarty left.
Which makes sense, actually... UP has so many scholarships opening up next year anyway that it would be an attractive place for an invited walk-on. Plus, I'm sure that Reveno would like to add a big guy to replace Big John's spot.
As for why we hadn't found out yet, well, usually we don't find stuff out until it gets posted on the net somewhere and our Google alerts pick it up.

Re: possible recruit
yeah thats true about the google thing.
I'm pretty sure that the coaching staff is going after that bjorstad kid from vancuver. Since he's been realeased by Nevada, I think there are three or four schools looking at him, including Washington State, who, don't quote me on it, but they may have opened up a scholarship spot for him.

I guess we need better sources. Maybe we should host a Pilotnation Microbew fest/bbq and invite some people from athletics. After sampling a couple 90 minutes and plinys they should be talking in no time.
