Four/Five/Four weeks and counting
The season starts in 4 weeks: 'ooray!
Had the chance to see some of the Pilots playing in a scrimmage this week. Not all of them were in action while I was there and the overall standard of players was mixed: so disclaimers abound.
But two observations:
Cloee Colohan plays like a 19 year-old Gert Boyle: one tough mother! I'm very excited about the Olivier-Colohan axis at the back.
Kendra is feisty and ready to rock and roll. She was taking players on, calling for the ball, tackling back with gusto, and looks back to full health.
I have great faith in Garrett to pick the best team. All I'll say is that if anyone is good enough to push any of this line up to the bench then all the better:
Kelsey (Hailee could start if the Davis jaw is still mending); Jessica, Cloee, Michelle O, Elli; Kendra, Keelin, Charney, Michelle E; Sophie, Danielle.
Bring on the Ducks!

Jumping the gun on the four weeks a little.....
I think there are a couple of freshmen who will definitely be called out for the starting lineup in Eugene.
Especially if a couple of players are still on the mend. Sophie, for example, is still sitting out the summer competition.

OK. I miscalculated when I originally called this 4 weeks and counting. I want it to be four weeks!
I changed the header to 5 weeks.

Who is coming down to Seattle to see the UP vs. UW games? Aug. 30th and September 6th right? I'm there.

Up? what map are you using? (in Argentina, South is often up)
The women play UW the 30th, and in the UW tourney the 4th and 6th. I'll be in Seattle the 30th. The men play Virginia and St. Louis at Merlo that weekend at our tournament.
For the women's tourney games, I'm trying to decide whether to go to Seattle or stay in town to watch the Men open their season with what will probably be their two best contests this year. But I have a feeling about the women this year, so I'd like to see as many games as I possibly can.
Choices, choices.
The Men play UW the 17th when the women will be in Texas, so I'll be sure to watch that.
Mark that Men's game on the 17th, BTW. The printed schedule card had an error.

Haha...you're right...coming up to Seattle. Let's be in touch if you're in Seattle on the 30th. I'd be up for a Pliny after the game...

Re: Four/Five/Four weeks and counting
OK guys, what calendar are you using? The schedule says the game is the 22nd so the original four-week notation was correct. Now it's only 27 days until.... I am so looking forward to this season with great anticipation of seeing Pilots soccer at its best.

Hmm.
I confess. I was using the duration calculator from dateandtime.com
I guess I can change the bookmark to randomnumbergenerator.com
But thanks for cheering me up! I think I'll have a Pliny

Re: Four/Five/Four weeks and counting
Is it July 28? I think it is. Let's see, that means 3 more days in July, plus just about 22 days in August until opening day. 25 days to go. That's 3 4/7 weeks, less a couple of hours.
I've run out of displacement activity to engage in, except that I still have to finish trimming 200 feet of holly hedge once the weather cools down. But, the RPI website is about as good as I can get it for now. I've got my hopefully trusty computer programmed to automatically do a whole bunch of RPI computations once I am able to start entering game results. What am I going to do to distract myself between now and then?
I saw the teams play at Pru field last Wednesday, with 5 1/2 grand-daughter Zoey. Can't start too soon! Unfortunately, I couldn't tell who the new Pilots were, except that I think I figured out which one was Kendall. I thought that Megan Sweeney looked great -- I hadn't realized what a truly great passer she is. I just saw the first game, so didn't get to see Elli, Keelin, Hailee, etc. I did see Sophie with Hailee, but it looked like Sophie wasn't going to be playing. Is she ok? Just resting after lots of activity?
My College Cup predicted teams for 2009? Portland, Penn State, Stanford, North Carolina. I'd love to see Portland and Stanford in opposite halfs of the bracket. My only question mark is whether Santa Clara will mount a comeback. If they do, that could change the mix, but it would be a long climb in a short period of time. Of course, they had a long descent in a short period, so it could happen.
GO PILOTS!

Ha! You aren't the only one itching for the season to start. Maybe it's getting close to the annual Geezer trivia question sessions replete with wrong answers.
Sophie does have a slight knee injury, I'm told, and she's rehabing it. I'm sure they will be very cautious in the preseason. The last time I was there, she seemed to be running and passing in warmups just fine.
The rest of the team looks great, I think. The players look very fit, so I'm guessing they took the off season training seriously. A great sign.

AthleticJames: May I call you A.J.? I plan to be up north in Seattle over Labor Day weekend to see Pilots vs. Columbia Lions. I'll be the schizophrenic fan wearing purple and light blue.
