Barcelona FC vs. Sounders FC Wed. August 5th, 7:30 PM ESPN2

The Barcelona FC game vs. LA Galaxy turned out to be a gem. I missed the final few minutes, but, I'm almost positive it ended 2-1 Barcelona...with Beckham scoring the lone goal for LA...a beautiful bender on a set piece which certainly irked Barcelona since he's a former Real Madrid guy. Rafa Marquez was the first substitution out, and Messi followed shortly after that, but, both played a lot of minutes. As usual, Messi's runs through the middle of the defense were amazing. Henry Thierry was in for most of the game.

Hopefully, the Seattle game will be just as good, and the Barcelona FC vs. Guadalajara Chivas at Candlestick Park game should be a classic. I'll be at the Wednesday game, sitting in Egypt in the 300 level. But, I'll be happy to be a fly on the wall.

The final was indeed 2-1. The Galaxy generally was pretty respectable against Barca, although one has to realize hat for them it's a preseason game. They weren't exactly in championship intensity mode.

But Beckham may be winning fans back with that kick, although I notice he loafs a LOT in the run of play.


I also noticed there was no hug from Donovan.

Hmm...

I take it back about Donovan and Beckham not celebrating.



I think the 93,137 fans got their money's worth.
I wonder how he feels about that American flag on his sleeve?

Although, in general the European "pace" isn't nearly as frenetic a style as they run here. More deliberate with knifing blows at opportune times.

If you watch the movie "Zidane" you will notice he rarely hits a full sprint, just careful, tactical movements and well times runs. And he was one of the best of his generation...
