It's maybe a day or two early, but I can't wait, so here's the first piece of reading matter.

Pilots vs Ducks Empty The register -Guard on the ducks

Post by Geezaldinho Wed Aug 19, 2009 8:46 pm

I've been thinking the Ducks might be better this year. They looked good in the Spring, and they discovered the grab-a-Canadian concept, and they stole our coach.

Turns out, they think the same thing.

I have to chuckle a bit. Every season the Ducks think they're going to be pretty good, but they never get over the hump. And there has been some whining about Portland in the past. I don't miss hearing that from my days in Eugene.

That being said, they have become a much better team under Tara Erickson, and I'd think that Oregon getting into the tournament would be as good for us as it would be for them. However, I don't know about the catching Portland early in the season part in the RG. The last time we were this loaded with talent in 2005, we came to Pape in the second game of the season and set a record for the number of goals ever scored on their field. It was 6-0, and we weren't firing on all cylinders quite yet. Smile

Not to be overconfident about it, but this has become a fairly intense rivalry, and I always like the Oregon game better than any other game against local schools.

Not to digress, but I think the Washington State game could be awesome. It's not a mistake that they're starting to show up in the rankings.

Well, this year at least, they didn't whine at all, they just talked about what they need to do. I want them to be good enough that people will just hate coming to the NW.

I don't know if they are a tournament team yet, but that year they talked about how we conspired so they didn't make the tournament because we were scared of them, and that we fouled too much (they outfouled us 3 to 1 the previous game) Etc. made me figure they were just thinking too much about everything but how to beat us.

That 6-0 score wasn't really indicative of how the game played out.

Garrett sat Cristine in the 62nd minute. Who knows what could have happened.

You're right about Oregon. They have been quiet this year. I still don't like 'em, though! Evil or Very Mad

Actually, I was Pissed at Garrett at the time. That was one of the trash-talking years. I wanted her to set an NCAA record. She was only two scores shy of tying it.

But unlike me, Garrett is a nice guy... and he probably was more focussed on the bigger picture.

I'm predicting "OMG II" this weekend! And...I'm keeping to my prime number supersitions and say...Pilots win 5-0...that's conservatively too! Evil or Very Mad

The 2009 team has talent, depth and world-class experience! Lots to like all-around! They could arguably play up to the standards of the 2005 team and match their accomplishments! There's no denying that all of us in Pilot Nation have been anticipating and giddy about the arrival of this particular season! Well...we can finally say...its here!!

It gonna be something special....Don't you sense it?

The Ducks improved? Yah maybe. But, not enough to... (IMHO)....keep up with Standford, Cal, USC, and UCLA this year! UW and WSU have also improved and may have more of an outside chance of being the bubble team to make the tourney. Can the Ducks stay in the Pac-10 race and qualify for the tourney? Hope so for our benefit! I'll lower my prediction to another prime number..3-0...if it'll help with their RPI. Twisted Evil

GO PILOTS!!!

I have been on the UP site and Stretch looking for any coverage of the game and can find absolutely nothing. The UP site usually has any and all coverage listed on the soccer schedule, but there is nothing there yet, even for the later games that I KNOW are on TV. Stretch has only a few baseball games listed for Saturday. Does anyone know? Is there even a match tracker for the game?

Geezer - What is paid internet? Is it a live announcer, or just more-or-less up-to-date stats?

OK - I found it - it looks like the same type of video UP does for home games.

I'm now a paid Duck. I'd better be able to hear you guys Saturday.

Pilots vs Ducks Empty The season starts today!

Post by Harry Redknapp Sat Aug 22, 2009 6:51 am

Finally we get to see a game and can stop posting about who plays where, buses to games, beers, shirt numbers, and other mathematical items!

I'm taking five girls to the game: my daughters and their friends. Wonderful example of what is so special about this program at UP. All play soccer and are excited to spend Saturday evening driving to and from Eugene to see these young women play the beautiful game.

God bless Clive Charles for laying the foundation and to all who keep it going.

[Speaking of Clive - "my" Spurs play West ham tomorrow. Tottenham are managed by 'arry R with leading scorer Jermaine Defoe, both ex-Hammers. First two games both good wins. Tough game at Upton Park tomorrow. COYS!]
