Final UNC 6-0 wins, breaks ND's 50 some game streak of games they scored in.

It appears that Santa Clara is still a couple of good recruiting years away...

Re: 9/4 other games
UNC has manhandled a couple of pretty good teams (UCLA and ND) very early in the season. Wow...Are the Tarheels that good already? Or is this a case of UCLA and ND still developing? Its gonna be an interesting tourney. Gotta believe the Bruins and Irish will have improved a lot by then but...UNC already proven some separation from the rest of the respected programs.
Santa Clara has to catch up fast...they still have ND, USC, Standford, Cal and us....left on their schedule. Brutal! I know..."Never underestimate SCU"! I don't...
GO PILOTS!!!

Re: 9/4 other games
Is there any chance that the success of Maryland's men's program has rubbed off on the women? Maybe that's a decent team. I guess time will tell, right? Remember...our men made the final four before the rise of the women's team began.
I was at both of our 2-0 wins against UW and Colorado College. Considering that UW made the second round of the NCAA tourney last year, I thought that was a good result. We really dominated possession against Colorado. We could have scored more in both games, however, it's nice to see Foxhoven and Elli both converting 2 goals in different games. Enyeart and Sophie need to get into the action to remain player of the year candidates, however, I think that either would put the team's success first...

Re: 9/4 other games
I think Santa Clara is still trying to find its offense. They are starting from scratch after a two year Hyatus. But there are all americans there, don't think they won't find themselves by the conference season. Maryland had a highly touted couple of classes, so they might be the real deal. That's also too early to tell for sure. SCU's defence allowed 1 shot in the first two games, so they are probably pretty tenacious.
Who would have thought that Arizona, TENN, Texas, Duke, SCU, USC, UCONN, Penn State, and TAMU would all be where they are? That used to be a tournament lineup.
Sophie and Michelle haven't exactly been potted palms on the field in the games I've seen.
They do have 3 goals and 4 assists between them in four games, and they both cause problems for the opponent's defense even when they don't score.
But it's still very early. As long as the defense is gelling, that's fine early. It's pretty tough to lose if other teams can't score on you.
The UP offense usually takes a little longer to build up a head of steam, but it always seems to get there after a few games. I have confidence that this year is no different. Just last week we were bemoaning the lack of a threat from that left. That issue seems gone right now.
Whether they or Danni, or any other players get post season awards will depend a lot on getting the National Championship or close to it. I think they would both forego any other awards if we got that.

Re: 9/4 other games
I think that we'll eventually play some teams that don't just try to clog up the box with defenders in WCC play, and the goals will come for Sophie and Michelle. Being a glass half full guy, I like the fact that we've had two players score 2 goals in 2 games.

Re: 9/4 other games
I just realized that the 6-0 drubbing of ND by UNC was at home, and was the inaugural game for Notre Dame's $5.7 million Alumni Field.
So much for home field advantage.

Re: 9/4 other games
early returns.
SCU beat Georgetown 2-1 in overtime.
GU previously was undefeated and outscored their opponents 15-0
and beat JMU 4-0
UNC squeaked by Marquette 1-0 on a goal with 27 min left. I find it interesting that each time UNC slaughters somebody, they eek out a win the next time. perhaps Anson is tiring his players out with those run up scores. or maybe they aren't fit enough for two games in a weekend.

Penn State lost to Rutgers 1-0 at home. Could be a long year for the Lions. They have the offensive weapons but cannot seem to put the ball in the net.

FSU beat Washington State 4-1. Dont let the score fool you, WSU had a number of dangerous chances and Dallstream cut through our D like butter for their goal.

Yes Geezaldinho, she is a great player, for some reason we were not marking her closely, leaving her WIDE open on the edge and she made us pay with her goal. We have an entire new back line with the recent loss of our best defender, so goals will happen this year. However, Tiana Brockway, from Tacoma has really stepped up and played great in the back for us.

Re: 9/4 other games
If you are looking for a good score reporting site,
http://www.nc-soccer.com/wsoccer/2009/
has been consistently getting the scores out earlier and more completely than the rest. It's run by a UNC fan , but is very good, and you can find out scores alphabetically, or by conference.
