Yahoo! Sports' Top 347 Countdown
70. Portland
CONFERENCE: West Coast
BEST PLAYER: G Nik Raivio
QUICK TAKE: This season, the Pilots will be Gonzaga's main challenger in the conference.
BUZZ: Coach Eric Reveno is building quickly and has the Pilots poised to battle it out with Gonzaga in his fourth season. Last year's JUCO sensation, 5-9 sniper T.J. Campbell (53 percent shooting on 3-pointers), joins Raivio (16.0 ppg) in the league's best backcourt. There's quality size, too, in 6-10 senior Robin Smeulders and 6-8 Luke Sikma, the son of former NBA star Jack Sikma.

Re: Yahoo! Sports' Top 347 Countdown
I find it interesting that we are only two spots behind Arizona. More cannon fodder for the jokers up North that over the last 25 yrs their program has dominated the NCAA titleholders and many time Pac-10 champs. Me thinks they crazy when they crazy to believe have been dominant over the 25 yr in a row NCCA qualifier, let me see who won last year's Zag vrs Wildcat game .But it was close, and we almost, coulda , shoulda won.
It's semi-accurate ratings, I like where they overated Nevada though, they were a pretty easy game to win last year had not the team taken parts of the 2nd half off like usual. Thus causing us faint of heart fan's to have to sweat it out to the end of the game.I believe SDSU is underated with Pepperdine's 2 best players 07-08 transfers elgible this year.I think Steve Fisher is an underated recruiter(recruited most of the "Fab Five" for Frieder at Michigan, reloading with players this year) and not a bad game coach either. I think ol' PilotNut and I remember SDSU destroying the Pilots a couple of years ago in Fresno tourney with like skilled and experienced (limited) to UP.Now their much stronger(Pepp. transfers, top 100 HS recruit to step right in , etc) like us (TJ,maturation of Juniors and Seniors). Even though they lost alot of seniors from the team that sent ol St Mary's and Patty Mill's packing in the NIT last year.JUST PROOF POSITIVE that SDSU BB OWNS USD BB again this year and for many years to come.A sad state of affairs for the ex Zag asst and reflection on his recruiting having played out all of Brad Holland's recruits except Brandon Johson. Running off Trumaine Johnson and Jones leaving for what looks like eventually to be St Mary's didn't help either.
I just hope this year Luke can live up to the "media hype" he gets nationally because he happens to have a noteworthy last name. That has to be a steep hill to climb being he is Jack Sikma's son. I wonder how Lukes little brother's doing in HS now that he is in his JR yr,(possible Rev recruit on the down low, you never know.

I hear Bouldin's studying Nuclear Biology, lol. Theyve changed the majors name to Physical Education though in Spokane... :lol:Also heard the foreign recruits are taking English as a 2nd language, and semi-proffessional basketball contract law.

Re: Yahoo! Sports' Top 347 Countdown
No mention of Stohl, was not he the 3rd rated player in the country in three pt percentage. Oh well , nice to fly under the "radar" so to speak, and bring out the 3 point "artillery" for WCC play when it matters . As far as qualifying for the tourney or NIT.

Yahoo! may not have the knowledge to mention Stohl, but you can bet our WCC opponents won't forget about him. After the USF game last year he had a hand in his face for every second possible for the remainder of the year.

Haha I can confirm that, Donsfan over at DC was at the Pacific game last March with us and was shocked to see Stohl miss (and that game there was a TON of missing).... They won't forget what he can do behind the arc any time soon....
