Re: who is ryan schaefer
He's a 6'9 200 lb. center from Bosque Prep in New Mexico:

Maybe Rev is looking for some depth at center.

Re: who is ryan schaefer
Remember DTR Kramer came to UP at 6'9" 210 lbs, Robin as a Soph was 6'10" 220-225, Luke was 6'8" 210-220 lbs. Jasonn was the only overweight player and we all remember his freshman year when after 8 trips up the court Rev said he would have to take his 300 lb overweight player out. He only became effective, and could contribute when he LOST 40 lbs.
It's not like all freshman BB players were All-State FB players in HS like TJ Campbell. Taller player's usually mature slower, and players like Kevin Love are an exception to the rule not the norm. Give the kid a chance, with Bradley Scott's help he ,John Bailey, and the other big men will have plenty of muscle when they step in for Robin,Kramer , and Luke in the future.
The big men are looking promising through 2013 and beyond......

I seem to remember a thread last year about John "Peggy" Hegarty where the theme was that people wanted him to slim down to 215..I could be wrong, but I'm usually not.

I was just thinking about how all the conversation about Hegarty's weight became moot. I guess it was a way to pass time...
As far as Schaefer goes, I'm happy that we have a freshman class, even if it is just 2 guys. Since we didn't have anybody graduate last year, I figured that we wouldn't have any new kids this year. Although it wouldn't be the end of the world to have an "empty" class, it is beneficial to have at least a few players in every class, IMO, to keep the talent turning over every year and give us recruiting spots for a few guys from every HS class that may be interested.

Re: who is ryan schaefer
Ah, too bad the WCC Championship games no longer rotate. Our team could play in the Jenny Craig Center like it did in 2008. Then DTR and I would really have something to post about.....

Ummm...I think most people were saying slim down to 275. At 215 and 7'1 he would have been a complete beanpole, but, that's past history now...

Re: who is ryan schaefer
Sorry fellas, I know this post is a little outdated but I came across it and thought I would fill you guys in a bit.
I know first hand about Scaheffer because I played aganist him for two years. He averaged about 18 a game in 2A which is the second smallest league in New Mexico. The tallest kids on most teams at this level in New Mexico is about 6'3". 5A is the largest. He attended Bosque Prep which is usually a power house in 2A but usually loses in the state semifinals. He is very lanky. He needs to bulk up.
To be honest with you, I didn't think he would go to such an established program at Division 1. He is wirey. I think he has potential but he needs to beef up.
I also heard that he was on scholarship and also held an offer from Boston University. Not sure how legitmate my source was.
Hopefully I helped you out a little, good luck this season. Beat UCLA.

Thanks for the info, LFR. I can confirm that Schaefer is a walk-on, but I look forward to seeing him play... once he heals up.

Yeah, sad that he tore his ACL in AAU. Just gives him some time to bulk up I guess.
