WCC Retro Shirts
Another nice job by the WCC Staff. Jamie Zaninovich... great hire.
I must say though, I am pretty disappointed in the UP "retro" shirt. (Pepperdine's too, for that matter.) Maybe the problem is that we didn't own the copyright to the old Pilot wheel, but man... we have some great old logos and it's a shame they weren't able to use them. I really hope it's not a case of UP telling them to use the new logo instead of the old one... because come on, there are supposed to be retro shirts for crying out loud!

Re: WCC Retro Shirts
The WCC's concept is great... but, seriously, the UP shirt is awful. The design... the color....
Just because we didnt own the rights to the old "wheel logo" doesnt mean it couldnt be used, though, right? I mean the other school's old logos arent copyrighted, either, are they?!
Another sad chapter in the series of failed UP merchandising...

Unfortunate... I'm a sucker for retro shirts too! The SCU and LMU ones are pretty darn awesome...

What, no "slip it in" shirt? That is as retro as it gets!

Re: WCC Retro Shirts
DTR, I would buy a shirt with that on it in an instant! (Well, maybe not for $38... but in concept, of course!)
Seriously, you should sent a note to the t-shirt folks with that photo. Let them know what they missed out on.
Hmmm, am I also sensing a PN t-shirt version 2.0 concept?!

Reply posted! And uhhh yeah, I think we can pretty much mark this one down as the next shirt idea (well aside from that target idea)... Now to find someone who can cleanly convert a button to a t-shirt sized logo...

Re: WCC Retro Shirts
Sigh... and to think this is a topic that gets me pretty fired up about and I STILL let myself start a tangent...
That said, I would love to search the archives or the university museum and dig up some of the old athletics logos, I'll bet you there are some gems just waiting to be discovered.

Re: WCC Retro Shirts
As for Pepperdine and St. Mary's...I don't know that it counts as retro if the logo was in use when I was in college. That Pepperdine logo with Neptune was pretty cool.Stonehouse wrote: I must say though, I am pretty disappointed in the UP "retro" shirt. (Pepperdine's too, for that matter.)
Does the USF one say "We Play Hard" on the back?

Yes, yes it does. It also has a caricature of John Cox moping at the end of the bench.

Re: WCC Retro Shirts
Yeah, ours is lame. I hate to say it, but, it looks like a woman's night shirt for a slumber party. Maybe someone could buy up some of them and a few white pom poms to replace the silver ones and make a charitable donation to the cheerleading team. They could use some new materials or supplies for the Vegas trip.

Re: WCC Retro Shirts
I just checked back at the site and here was the exchange between me and apparently a guy who works there:
So maybe there is hope??
- DaTruRochin on 13 Jan 2010 at 3:26 pm #
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the concept and half of those shirts are pretty
amazing, however as a UP alumnus I can’t help but wonder how a “retro
design” is based off a logo created by Nike 4 years ago… Seriously, we
have a number of old school logos that would have made a very cool
T-shirt…- Andy on 13 Jan 2010 at 4:05 pm #
That is just one offering for the moment. We’ll have you covered with some much older logos VERY soon…hang tight & thanks!
So maybe there is hope??

Your way too positive and nice with that message. It must from all that time hanging out with Stonehouse, lol. No more roadtrips to Pacific games for you and Stoney and his other favorite teams green and gold friend, lol.
J/K nicely done DTR but I wouldn't hold your breath for any new selections until they dump the 4 yr old "retro's" .

Re: WCC Retro Shirts
Well, I did try and be diplomatic so they wouldn't delete my post completely... yeah well, when they don't sell any $38 retros because of a stupid design I wonder whether they'll even make the effort.

Re: WCC Retro Shirts
That was great intiative to e mail though. You could have just been like me and bit@@ed about it and not done something constructive like you did.
I think its time for me to complain about the taxpayers having to pay for some mid-level FEMA pencil pusher who rode business class.Jeezswith the economy the way it is were upgrading "Browny" jrs (remember George W.'s Katrina gaff) from coach to business class on our taxpayer money. He sure could play a mean game of solitary on his government issued puter all the way from Phoenix to Portland.
Onward to more positive happenings tonight....
Crowd estimate is only 1800-2000 folks. That means you can buy a cheap ticket and sneak around the rent a cop/ushers to better seats (didnt hear it from me) put a little thrill in your night PN fans

Re: WCC Retro Shirts
Gotta thank Dons Central for pointing this out, but looks like they came up with a 2nd round of retro shirts, and UP got a new one...

Not a bad blend of the new P and the old wheel, at least sounds like they tried to listen to our harping. Not sure if it is $38 good, but I'm definitely considering this one.
