#2 St. Mary's vs. #3 Portland @ WCC Tourney, March 7
We all knew this was coming. I don't have much to say other than keep someone on Omar. He's going to score, but you have to keep him from completely controlling the paint. Also, they have a lot of shooters, similar to the Pilots, so watch out. Easier said than done, but we made it happen once this year.
Tip off at ~7:30. Pictures on ESPN2, sounds on 970 AM/Portlandpilots.com, words in the Chatbox (maybe).

Sitting waiting for mass to end, just saw the guys headed to breakfast and watch film. Probably means absolutely nothing, but Raivio was wearing warmups and carrying the shoe for his right foot. Guess we'll know what is up tonight...

The team just walked past the internet corner here... didnt see Raivio. But the whole team was in warmups.... I am guess he was just matching.

And now that it's over I still don't have much to say. Tonight we could not hit water while standing in a boat.
The boys will get one more chance, somewhere, in some tournament, and they can still end on a good note.

Yeah...disappointing result. I've got to hand it to Rev for getting us two 20 win seasons in a row though. I'm excited to see what we'll do in the coming years with a little more athleticism.

Re: #2 St. Mary's vs. #3 Portland @ WCC Tourney, March 7
Yeah, that was too bad...frigid shooting, very uncharacteristic for our guys.
The whole tech on Rev was stupid. Samhan started jawing at Ethan and got right up in his face, then basically ran him over. Rev didn't like it and got a T for his trouble.
GU and SMC fans overall are looking like the classiest fans in the bunch. By that I mean not at all. I'm looking at you, people on the sideline next to the band.

Re: #2 St. Mary's vs. #3 Portland @ WCC Tourney, March 7
Give credit to SMC, they played the best defense tonight that we've seen all year. They completely
took Jared and TJ out of the game - and I mean completely. The Pilots are not going to win when that
happens - just way too much firepower lost.
Not to pick on Robin, but for a 1st team all conference player, he sure misses a lot of "point blank" shots.
There simply wasn't enough offensive punch out there tonight to stay in the game. The Pilots had
a golden opportunity to make it a game when they cut it to five. But then the lead immediately went to
double digits again, and SMC started to hit some shoots. It soon got out of hand due to no counter-
ounching by UP at the offensive end.
I wonder if the Ducks will go after Rev? If not them, we can be sure that someone will. Next year will be
a challenge for Rev. He loses a lot of firepower in Raivio, TJC, Smeulders, Ethan. The biggest concern has
to be who will take over for TJC at the point?

On the technical, the way I saw it was that Reveno wasn't pissed at the Ethan/Samhan bump. It was because the St. Mary's player (believe Ben Allen) went over the back on the rebound and put-back. Allen totally knocked over Taishi, I think. And Rev was storming down the sidelines when that happened.

I sat next to a nice GU fan, who actually graduated from the school. She agrees that some of their fans are not classy. Up large with 3 minutes to go and yelling "sux" after the LMU cheers is bush-league. And it wasn't just students. LMU students did a nice job of showing spirit. And it is hard to get why SMC fans were getting so incensed about ref calls when the scrubs were in playing out the time. Chill, guys.PilotDrummer wrote:Yeah, that was too bad...frigid shooting, very uncharacteristic for our guys.

Your right ...... Rev wasnt jawing at the refs about Omar running over Neidemeyer, it
was about Ben Allen going over the back, and the no call.
After being taken to school in Portland 3 weeks ago, Mickey McConnell played great D last night on TJ
and I thought the other key was our Aussie freshman Jordan Page blanketing Stohl.
And of course Page getting 14 points, a career high.
You guys have a good team, good luck in whatever tourney you end up in.
We worry every year now about losing Bennett ...... I hope you keep Reveno.
Seems like a good fit there, and he has sure turned you guys around.
Any of you Pilots know much about our Jesuit / Portland recruit Stephen Holt ?
We are hearing great things about him. He was rated very high.
If any of you have any updates, I'd appreciate it.

Ah. Basket blocked my view of Rev's being pissed at the non-call, but that makes sense.

I think you're quoting up7587, not me, but there are a few nice GU and SMC fans out there. Just not the ones who booed the band as they walked through the hotel.
The nicest compliment I was paid this year came from a SMC alum from Seattle who comes down to Portland for games and actually was looking for "the band's conga player" after the semifinal game. So, to the fans who are cool to the band, the fans, and the team? You rock. To the rest of you? Stay classy.

It was quite endearing when one of the St. Mary's players told our fans to suck his c*** as he left the game.
I can't picture any of our guys doing that to anyone. Another reason I'm proud to be a Pilot fan.

I'm not a Ducks fan by any stretch of the imagination, but one of the unrecognized aspects of Ernie Kent's tenure down in Eugene is that regardless of how the play on the court, they graduate everyone. In fact, earlier this season Kent suspended LeKenrick Longmire, their best defensive player, for something like four games for not having his academic house in order. Whatever you say about Ernie's coaching, he's done a good job in the academic arena.
As for the Gaels ... I think we need them to win tonight. With two WCC teams for sure in the Big Dance, we look a lot better to the NIT.

Re: #2 St. Mary's vs. #3 Portland @ WCC Tourney, March 7
Wow, that game was ugly. I had to record it and turn down the radio today everytime they started "bubble talk." I kind of wish the score had been "spoioled" for me. We did not look good, but a lot of credit does need to go to SMC for that. Bennet came in with a great defensive gameplan and their players executed it very well. I am definitely pulling for the Gaels tonight (well, actually I will be sleeping and hoping I see them with a bigger number next to their name than Gonazaga when I wake up in the morning).
