Hmmm... He's got work with ESPN, and he really hardly did anything. $2.3 million severance package? Seriously. This kind of stuff and the extravagant locker room with X-Box games for the "student athletes" really irks me...not that I wasn't a biased Duck-hater to begin with.

Re: So...Belotti
The deal was made when Belotti decided to step down as coach and is just now coming out. The ducks really wanted to hire Chip, and Belotti was a few years away from wanting to step down. In order to get him to step down, they needed to pay him. This is way cheaper than Weis' buyout at ND. It's a little more than Washington paid to get rid of Willingham though. I just don't see the problem.

Re: So...Belotti
I don't remember, but wouldn't this coaching buyout have also saved them $$$ based on what they would have owed Kelley if much more time had passed without him being promoted??
I don't really see the issue of the money being paid out if that's the intended purpose. The whole timing of everything surrounding Kent's firing and then then Belotti resigning so quickly just makes it seem like there is more to be angry about. Clearly the fancy facilities and athlete perks aren't making the administrator's jobs any easier...
(and yes my lenses are purple, but the white frames have made my vision a lot clearer )

Re: So...Belotti
How many scholarships, athletic or otherwise, could have been funded with $2.3MM?

I prefer to think of it in terms of pints that could have been filled, and that leaves me truly aghast... It's a good think this is for amateur sports otherwise I'd be concerned.

Re: So...Belotti
It turns out the state's attorney can find no contract with Belotti, so the question remains as to whether any state or University funds were used to pay him...
I'm going to be kind of pissed if my taxes paid for his house in Boca Raton.

I am pretty sure I had heard the money was coming from the DAF fund aka booster donations.
