WNT vs Germany, May 22

The world's top 2 teams meet as the US women play Germany this afternoon in Cleveland at 3 pm PDT on ESPN2 and ussoccer.com MatchTracker. Megan Rapinoe and Stephanie Cox were among the 22 players called up for the match, but 18 will suit for the game, says ussoccer.com.

U.S. up 2-0 with 2 minutes left in the half. Wambach scored on a PK an O'Reilly on a rebound. Both goals, according to the TV commentators were set up by Christine Lilly. My opinion, they were set up on the pass before, by none other then our own Stephanie Cox, nee Lopez! Steph is playing an outstanding game!

My eyes agree with fozziewozzie about the Cox pass. Germany has a lot of scoring threats up front and is pressuring the US back line, but Stephanie and the back line held strong in 1st half.

Stephanie played til 63rd minute. 6 minutes later Megan came on in the midfield and played well. USA trounced the Germans 4-nil, although the game was more exciting than the score would indicate. Hope Solo came up huge in the 2nd half with some monster saves. The ESPN announcers were talking about how Germany was trying to exploit the US central defense, and a lot of the attacks went right up the middle, but Germany was too undisciplined and/or out of sync in the attacking third and were often called offsides. At age 38 Christine Lily scored a goal ... amazing. Women's world cup happens in 2011 in Germany. That's the US-Germany match that will matter. For now, Pilots fans can enjoy this rout.
