Re: USA England
Fabulous crowd at Director Park today. Great to see so many come out despite the Grand Floral Parade going on a couple blocks away.
The best part is we got the result I thought we could get, and now the English press is going to go off the deep end as only the English press can.

The real SUN headline wasn't much different than the spoof.

Re: USA England
I thought Cherondolo played remarkably well. He kept his composure after getting his yellow card, and he had some pretty key stops. He's such a consistent presence for the team. I'm a bit surprised that Edson Buddle didn't start. Jozy Altidore looked healthy.

Re: USA England
From Sportscenter this AM, I saw another headline with "Hand of Clod". Has a nice ring to it. You gotta feel for the guy, though. Even major leagers boot routine ground balls. I think as long as England advances, people can look past it (especially if they take first in the group). The Yanks played well, and despite the shocker allowed by their keeper goalie, I think we played well enough to say that we earned the draw.
At the risk of starting something perhaps best left for other boards, what did you think of the new logo? I hear it received quite the reception (the youtube video of the reaction is very NSFW).

Re: USA England
I was struck by the similarity between pictures of the US goal and the only known picture of the winning goal by Joe Gaetjens in 1950.
see for yourself:
A second before, Green was in the same position as the 1950 keeper. I haven't found that picture from behind, though.
There's a short movie about Gaetjens and how he was murdered by Papa Doc Duvalier in Haiti here:
http://soccernet.espn.go.com/world-cup/story/_/page/worldcup101-05302010/ce/us/goal-ghost-story-joe-gaetjens?cc=5901&ver=us
So little is known about that game that nobody is sure what number he wore that day.
Here's a picture of Brazilian fans carrying him off the field after the victory against England.

I had intentionally avoided talking about this.VillaGorilla wrote:

When you compare it to the crest we have now there is no question in my mind which one I prefer. The new logo definitely looks like it belongs in MLS if you get what I'm saying.
Yes, the reception from a few of our supporters was very negative, partly because the logo leaked Friday, they knew what it was going to look like, and they didn't like the logo at all. I had not seen until the event Saturday and when I did I stood there silently. If I had liked it I would have applauded. The chanting you can hear in the video was coming from a group right in front of me. Even if you take away that you can tell the rest of the crowd was not completely in love with it. Even more telling perhaps was the fact that there were no lines at the merchandise tents afterward.

That's hilarious, and it definitely wouldn't be complete without the instant replay.
