If you live in Portland, you have until Thursday the 29th to go see it at the Hollywood Theatre.
The subjects, Luke and Gwedolyn, both played Division I soccer and their competitive careers ended when they graduated. While deciding on the next steps in their lives they decided to make a documentary about their experiences playing in pickup soccer games all over the world.
This film is fabulous. Quite simply, if you like soccer you have to see it. Even if you're not into sports very much it will give you a sense of why soccer is so beloved the world over. As one who loves soccer it made me realize how gigantic the soccer world is. At the same time it made me appreciate how I have in common with the rest of the world.
There is soccer in places you wouldn't believe. They find games on the roof of a high-rise office building, in the shadow of the pyramids in Egypt, a prison, and tons more. They really did go all over the world and after seeing the film I wanted even more of the footage they only included brief clips of.
If you can't get to the theater it is available on DVD now at pelada-movie.com. A version with bonus features (which I really would like to see) is supposed to be out in the fall.
