University of Portland and True Talk 800 AM to Broadcast Pilot Soccer and Basketball
PORTLAND, Ore. --- The University of Portland and Salem Communications have announced a partnership to broadcast all men’s basketball games and selected soccer games live on True Talk 800 AM (KPDQ) during the 2010-11 season, it was announced on Thursday. The broadcasts will be simulcast online at portlandpilots.com and truetalk800.com.
A total of 10 soccer matches this fall will go on the air live, beginning with Friday’s women’s home opener versus Portland State at 7 p.m. Other featured soccer radio broadcasts include a women’s road match with preseason No. 1 Stanford on Sept. 25 and a men’s home match against Northwest rival Washington on Sept. 18.
Soccer broadcasts will go on the air at the scheduled time for kickoff and will include a brief post-game show. Adam Linnman and Pilot defender Megan Sweeney will call the action for the women’s games, while Jason Brough UP soccer Hall of Famer Joe Leonetti will call the men’s broadcasts.
The Portland women’s soccer team is ranked No. 5 nationally and the men’s soccer team is No. 19 nationally according to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Preseason Top 25 polls.
All men’s basketball games will air live on KPDQ beginning with a 30-minute pregame show and concluding with a post-game show. Play-by-play duties have yet to be assigned for the basketball season and will be announced at a later date.
The 2010-11 men’s basketball non-conference schedule is arguably the best in school history and is highlighted by a home game against the University of Kentucky at the Rose Garden on Nov. 19. The Pilots will also host a four-team tournament at the Chiles Center to open the regular season on the weekend of Nov. 12-14. Other marquee home games include Saint Louis, Nevada, Utah and UC-Santa Barbara, while key road games are at Washington and versus Washington State at KeyArena in Seattle. The West Coast Conference men’s basketball schedule begins Jan. 8 at perennial NCAA contender Gonzaga and the WCC Tournament will once again be held in Las Vegas, Nev. at the Orleans Arena on March 4-7.
Portland is coming off of back-to-back postseason appearances for the first time in school history in men’s basketball and matched a program record with 21 wins at the Division I level last year.

I tried AM 800 on the car radio, and at least it came in during the day. I'll need to check the signal at night.

We were thrilled to pick up the Pilots this season. UP is a nice fit philosophically for Salem Communications. And Jason Brough is a pro!
