Story from CaliHiSports
20 Dorian Cason
School: Summit
Position: Power Forward
Height: 6’6
Weight: 210
Schools Seattle, Portland, Harvard, Yale, UNLV
Dorian Cason is one of the more underrated prospects on the west coast. So many great high school basketball players get funneled through 'basketball factory' high schools that when a talented guy comes along from a lesser known basketball school (like Summit, which is more of a football school) he often gets overlooked. And while Cason hasn't received the national or even state wide attention he deserves, that is likely to change once he starts his senior year.Cason is a big body who has well rounded skills. At 6'6 and over 200 pounds he is big enough to bang bodies down in the post. Dorian has proven to be a physical player and gets great position on box outs and rarely lets a guy get an offensive board on him. He does a good job of clogging up the lane and making the right rotation when a man penetrating is attacking the hoop. He has good lateral quickness for a guy his size and can stay in front of quicker players.
Cason's versatility and immense skill level is shown in his offensive game. He has an incredibly smooth stroke with a very high release point. He is consistent all the way out to about 16 feet and even though he loses consistency when he goes past that point, he is still a threat from the three point line. When bigger defenders go out to meet him on the perimeter he often uses a pump fake to get by them and get to the basket.
Cason is also a great finisher around the basket. While he should try and get down low a little more often, when he is around the hoop he does a great job finishing strong. Every now and then he will throw down an electric slam and always takes the ball up with enough authority to draw a foul call. He has a good vert and does a good job putting back missed shots on slams and tip ins.
Despite his already considerable talents Cason has more room to improve and will be able to showcase his vast skills in his senior year for Summit.
The next level?: Cason has lots of interest from mid major programs and Ivy league schools but will draw top flight D1 interest as the season goes along. Cason will eventually have to make the choice between being 'The Man' at a smaller school or being a piece of the puzzle at a bigger school.
Cason is an extremely talented player with lots of room to grow. He has considerable upside especially if he can improve his quickness and perimeter skills. He could really develop into a nice inside outside player at the next level and should be a high impact guy wherever he goes.

Re: Dorian Cason commits to Portland
Note that Dorian chose the Pilots over Pacific, Pepperdine and Santa Barbara, at least according to the link. Whether it should be the case or not, those programs are not ones we often beat in the recruiting wars. Reveno can coach, but he can recruit too. Things are looking up . . .

Re: Dorian Cason commits to Portland
Yes indeed, but at the same time if you read some of the recruiting info on Cason you will see a lot of "under the radar" type language, and "underrated," so this has the potential to look like an even bigger "get" down the road.
This list has him as a top 20 recruit from California (and says he is mainly local/mid-major but should make the jump to the national level visibility wise): http://www.calihighsports.com/articles/117
That article also notes that he is drawing lots of Ivy League interest too and lists people recruiting him as: Seattle, Portland, Harvard, Yale, UNLV
Um, wow! Talent AND a good student? When is LOI day exactly?

Re: Dorian Cason commits to Portland
Isn't this the second or third guy Rev has gotten who was getting Ivy League interest? I much prefer Rev's scouting style to Chavez/Holton picking up the likes of Ryan Jones/Marcus Lewis/etc. It doesn't get much worse than a player losing eligibility over academics.
Back to my original point. Sounds like a great pickup for the Pilots!

Re: Dorian Cason commits to Portland
You misread that...I was saying that Chavez was good and Rev is just better. Yes, that is what I meant. No disrespect was intended, of course. Yes, let's go with that.

If we need some help at the PF position next year, there's a kid named Cason who is transferring from PSU.
