TOP ASSISTANT RUNDOWN CONTINUES WITH WEST COAST CONFERENCE
Tuesday, October 5, 2010, 09:20 AM EST [General]
Thus far we’ve run through the ACC, A-10, America East, Atlantic Sun Missouri Valley and Ohio Valley. Now it’s time to look at the top assistants in the West Coast Conference – as voted upon by at least 75 percent of the coaches in the league:
1) Ray Giacoletti, Gonzaga – Mark Few hired Giacoletti to his staff in 2007 after he was the head coach at Utah for three years and had a 54-40 mark – including a Sweet 16 appearance. He was also the head coach at Eastern Washington and went 69-50 in four seasons at the helm – including taking the program to its first-ever NCAA tournament appearance in 2004. Giacoletti was also the head coach at Division II North Dakota State and an assistant at Illinois State (1990-93) and Washington (1997-2000).
``He’s the consummate coach. Nobody works harder. He’s incredibly gifted and knowledgeable about everything – recruiting, player development, game strategy and he’s got a great rapport with our players. I might add. It’s comforting he’s been a head coach who has coached his team to the Sweet 16 and taken Eastern Washington to the tournament, also. He’s been there and knows what it takes. Ray is as good as anyone, but I feel fortunate to have all three of my guys like that.” – Gonzaga coach Mark Few
