Or, you could think of that since UP and SCU were both on D1 and in the WCC, a UP win would put UP at 12-8-2

Re: Santa Clara match
Big Game!
Bronco rivalry - the history over the years is that it is very hard to win away. We did it last year, but the team better bring it.
if we win, it's a coast into the conference championship and a #1 seed
If we lose, it's harder. but the way the rest of the NCAA is doing, a #1 seed is still possible - likely even. the bad part is it gives a BCS dominated committee options. We generally don't get the benefit of 50-50 call from those folks.
the answer> win it.
and remember
Never, EVER underestimate Santa Clara. This is the whole season to them. We should treat it the same.

Re: Santa Clara match
Tried Big Al's but Pro-football dominates. They don't have any screens for ESPNU. That sucks! The Pilots seem to be doing well though...at the 65th min, they lead 8 shots to 1...but score is still 0-0. Go Pilots!!!

FT: SCU 0-1 UP. PN dance party!
I didn't want to jinx this, but now it can be said: How many Pilot senior classes have gone undefeated against the Broncos? Sinclair didn't. Neither did the Rapinoes, and I don't think MacMillan or Milbrett did either. This truly is an amazing accomplishment.

Re: Santa Clara match
And an outstanding performance--perhaps their best of the year IMHO.
It was clear that it was going to take something special to beat Henninger, and that cross and left-footed volley at knee height from Halley was truly something special.
And of course I little luck never hurts. Santa Clara had chances but didn't get the breaks or the calls.

Umm... How many SCU Senior classes have never seen a goal scored on the Pilots?

Re: Santa Clara match
Strongest match yet for the Pilots. I like that they are running with a bit of luck too, you always need that. Very few quality chances again and the same breakdowns as I've mentioned before in the attacking third but an outstanding goal and a gritty performance. I think some of the greatest danger again came from deep runs of Jessica and I love it when Elli gets real involved on the wing. Kendall looked much more confident on the knee. Although Taylor gave the ball away quite a bit moving into attack, she was definitely well placed to clear the corner kick off the line. I'm glad the ref caught the foul on the free kick that went into the goal and once again, the crossbar was our friend. Oh, and the commentary was awful. Does Brianna Scurry have even a drop of excitement ever? That was the most monotone delivery I think I've ever heard. There MUST be a woman out there somewhere that can learn how to call a college soccer game...
The Pilots looked like a top 5 team for the first time to me today. They haven't solved their offensive problems but another 1-0 win against a quality ranked team was their best efort to date. IMHO

Re: Santa Clara match
Shutting out both San Diego and Santa Clara on their home turf is a righteous feat. Doing it without Sophie shows grit and depth. Nothing is a given in this soccer season where UCLA and UNC and others have more losses than usual. The Pilots' consistency and resilience are remarkable. A bit of luck helps too. But skill and preparation tend to breed good luck. As my long-ago coach Bob Ashe used to say, "Fortune favors the brave." 2010 Pilots are a brave team.

Cool!
Your coach read Pliny?
But I prefer the version that he said "fortune favors the bold"

I was thinking the same thing, honestly they reminded me of the SNL Delicious Dish skits with Molly Shannon and Ana Gasteyer... (Well minus the monotone suggestive innuendo...but I digress..) I was able to watch the first half, the Pilots were in a completely different class than the broncos, just kind of inflicted their will and pace of play. Great possession and great build up, just not the consistent finish. Also Kendall looked great, and her and Elli are definitely back on the same page, I pity the right flank that has to deal with their combination up that side. Bah, I wish I could have caught the rest of the game, great win! (Obvious statement alert!)

Re: Santa Clara match
I was in the chat room during the game doing a poor PBP for folks who didn't have TV.
I went back to see how many mistakes I made when I came across this, which I totally missed then.
Gotta love it. D'ya think we can get Voodoo Donuts to donate some for when they come here next year?

PurplePrideTrumpet : Geez: Just saw this online: Independiente fans threw sweet buns at Boca fans. Trying to tell them, "you're a bunch of poor Bolivians."
