Civil War and Apple Cup: Who Wins?
Lots on the line this weekend. We all know what waits if Oregon wins. But if OSU wins they become bowl eligible, for the 5th year in a row. Same for UW; if they win they are bowl eligible after several disappointing years. WSU is playing for pride, and perhaps for their coach's job security.
So, make your call. Will the Ducks continue to roll on, steamrolling the Beavers? Will the Beavers, who blasted USC, but have played some baaaad games lately, make a game of it and pull off an upset? WSU played very well in Corvallis; can they build on that success and use home field advantage to stop the Huskies? Will the Huskies continue to beat the bad teams on their schedule, which the Cougs surely are?

I voted with my "wallet" not my "heart"... but... GO COUGS!

The only thing the Cougs have going for them is the gross Pullman weather, which could very well make a difference in that game (who the hell schedules a football game in the Paloose in December, I mean really...) But is that enough for me to vote for them, ever? No.

The same people who tried to pull off the Emerald Bowl in Seattle in late December?

Re: Civil War and Apple Cup: Who Wins?
There are apparently no Beaver Believers on this forum.
I was just looking at WSU and UW on Sagarin. Kinda interesting. UW has the toughest schedule in the country, while WSU has the second toughest. His predictor rating has UW at only a field goal margin. My initial reaction was that UW would win easily, but maybe not.
As for UO v. OSU, the Ducks will steamroll. FYI - the Beavs have the 3rd toughest schedule in the country. Too bad they are going to be the best team to not play in a bowl because of it.

Re: Civil War and Apple Cup: Who Wins?
The Apple Cup is always a strange game, especially when played in the snowy Martin Stadium... And historically (and this year as well) this is the "Cougs bowl game" so they get up and play like the red-headed step children that they are (no offense R54). Weather like that will make the game unpredictable, but UW does have a decent, young running attack, unfortunately their O-line would be better served in the bullfighting arena than the football field...
I'd totally vote for the Beavs if the elder Rodgers was available, but.... Maybe it's a good thing Uncle Al isn't around to see this one in the stadium that he built...

Re: Civil War and Apple Cup: Who Wins?
I would have taken UW but for Wazzu's recent performance against OSU. That makes it a toss-up. Crap weather is on schedule as usual for a Pullman winter (trust me on this one) but both teams should be used to this. Part of me hopes UW will win convincingly to expedite Wulff's firing, so we can get around to hiring Mike Leach before someone else does.
I also like OSU even though the cards are stacked against them. They love to perform late season. Plus the game is at Reefer.

Yeah, actually UW by 3 and U of O in a steamroll sounds about right. I wish it could be UW and OSU, but, that's extremely unlikely. The thing that should give WSU fans a lot of hope and optimism is that Washington's record in Pullman when it snows is pretty horrendous. Of course, there's no Bledsoe this year, but, still... If Sark does his research, there are a lot of reasons for concern.
By the way, does anybody have any good, but, appropriate jokes?

Re: Civil War and Apple Cup: Who Wins?
I only know the ones in poor taste.... Although a friend posted this one earlier:
What do Beaver and Duck fans have in common?
Neither one of them went to UO.
Side note: I'm liking both of the uniforms today, they are a stupid fossil wing design away from being perfect....

Yeah, the commentator noted how Oregon's uniforms have zero of their team colors in them. Maybe they'll randomly decide to come out in pink for the national championship game.
