What's the deal with the Mid-Major Top 25?

How is it that teams below us in Real Time RPI are above us in the rankings? Do the voters vote on reputation alone when they give Gonzaga a vote for #1?

Well, I would agree that Gonzaga's #1 vote is ridiculous.
Having said that, RPIs really don't mean anything at this point, and they really won't mean anything until February. Too small of a sample of games, and it's too early to tell what's a good win and what's not.
Personally, at points like this in the season, I would say that human polls more accurately reflect the current best teams than RPI ratings do.

It seems like it's all based on reputation and the pre-season conference voting. That's the only way I can explain it... But, yeah, Stoney is correct, RPI doesn't mean anything yet...
