It's Baseball Season!
A little bit lost in the hubbub surrounding basketball these days is that Pilot baseball threw out their first pitch on Friday at Middle Tennessee State. The Pilots swept the series, with Chris Dennis - the WCC's best closer - getting saves in all three games. Next up: Concordia on Tuesday (barring weather) at Joe Etzel Field.

Re: It's Baseball Season!
The George Fox game was interesting. It was great to see the game in hand before the 7th, mostly for the sake of those who could not find shelter from the winds or the variable rain levels.
To be fair, I was a little surprised they fit in all 8.5 innings; luckily, the rain never got too bad.
Those winds also might have played a role in some hits landing fair or foul and maybe even the homerun, though it seemed to have enough power to not require wind aid.
I guess the official scorer did not see any errors; I and the scoreboard operator thought there was at least one that lead to the first George Fox run and possibly one that extended another half inning for the George Fox bats. That's why baseball is a subjective game. Clearly after further observation, the plays were not makeable plays.
This game was an experience I nor my clothes will soon forget. A good win to shake off the rust for the Oregon game. Let's hope for good conditions and another exciting season!

As a Willamette fan, I hate George Fox. Glad to see the Pilots take care of business.

The Pilots improve to 5-0 on the year, while Oregon dips to 4-4.

Re: It's Baseball Season!
Beseda's writeup for the Oregonian:
The Portland Pilots passed a test of college baseball legitimacy with flying colors on Tuesday.
The Pilots win marked the fifth time they’ve beaten Oregon in six meetings since the Ducks resurrected their baseball program two years ago, so it was nothing new. But the winning never gets old, either.

Seattle games are delayed. If I didn't have a prior commitment, I could have gone to this tomorrow. So, now that we beat a ranked Oregon team (#15 or #18 depending on the poll), how does that affect us? It looks like the experts are still considering it a bad loss for them...

The bad loss part is that they have a .016 winning percentage against UP

After we beat Oregon, they ended up going 1-3 for the week and falling out of the rankings. O--ver-rated! Clap! Clap!!!--clap, clap, clap.

So, that means it was not a 'good' win for the Pilots?onetouchfutbol wrote:http://www.baseballnews.com/polls/divI/currentpolldivI.htm

Any win over the Ducks is a good win, however, the Ducks were probably undeserving of their #15 ranking...
