Re: 2012 recruit news
Any more ideas for players that might be signing with UP in the coming weeks? Also, who is this potential transfer that is rumored to be interested in coming to Portland?
Is there a limit to the number of transfers that can come to a school in one given year?
Excited to see who else is coming to play for the Pilots between now and signing day.

Re: 2012 recruit news
San Jose Mercury is reporting that Morgan Marlborough is transferring from Nebraska to Santa Clara.
I don't know enough about the processes to know why anyone with her talent would sit out a year to play just one more college year...unless she is going to get to play club soccer or USWNT during 2012.
Would someone please enlighten me?

She is apparently a talented enough player to make the USWNT, according to many sources, but won't get noticed at Nebraska where they still play bump and run.
She needs to go someplace to showcase her talents and maybe benefit from a couple years under Jerry.
I was under the impression she was granted a release and could play this year.

Re: 2012 recruit news
A little more research shows she will sit, but her transfer appears to already have paid off.
From AWK:
She got named to the u23 squad.

Happy to see Morgan Marlborough back in the mix though after being in the international wilderness for a long while.

Thanks, Geez...I can always count on you...except maybe when it comes to having Pliny on reserve at a nearby pub.

What ever happened to recruit from last year M. Leahy? She is not listed on the roster anymore, did she suffer career ending injury?

I believe that she might have been kicked off the team... But, I don't want to start rumors that aren't true.

You forgot, pubs only have Pliny's on reserve when the Geez hasn't been there recently.
Re: 2012 recruit news
On recruiting site I see a Tennessee player transfering to UNC. Probably because of coaching change at U. Tenn.
I wonder what these kids are thinking as far as getting playing time when they transfer to a UCLA or UNC.
UCLA shows 14 freshmen on their 2011 roster(includes a couple of RS). They show show another 8 coming in in 2012, and another 7 in 2013.
UNC lists 9 freshmen on their 2011 roster. They also have 8 coming in for 2012 and 7 for 2013.
Most of these kids have been stars all their life. Sitting on the bench is not something they take kindly to. No wonder these are not happy teams from what you read on BS.

Re: 2012 recruit news
Curiosity makes me ask what the fewest number the Pilots have ever had on their roster.
The current roster (if #16 is truly gone) shows 14 players with only 2 coming in for 2012...making a total of 16 players.
I personally thought we were short a couple of players last year, so that prompted my question. It seems that a normal roster would be 2 X 11 or 22 players...any help in answering my question would be greatly appreciated. I am anxiously awaiting the Feb. 1 NLOI signings.

Re: 2012 recruit news
One of the smallest rosters was the 1998 semifinal team that took UNC TO 4 overtimes. About the same number.

Re: 2012 recruit news
The Pilots released their announcement of Devlyn Jeter's signing today: http://portlandpilots.com/news/2012/2/13/WSOC_0213121741.aspx
According to the release, this completes the Pilots' 2012 class, with four players added to the team.
She sounds great!
The roster next year will be very small. Let's hope everyone stays healthy. As the Geez has pointed out, this has the look of 1998 (is that the right year?). That was the year of, in my opinion, the most inspiring performance of a Pilots team ever.

That team wasn't exactly an aberration in terms of team size.
here is the 1995 final four team:
and the team that stepped on the field for our first championship:
we will have to be luckier than we have been with injuries the last few years for sure, but they only let you put 11 on the field at a time.

Re: 2012 recruit news
Actually, if you look at the new recruits coming in, it might not be so small after all. It just depends on how many of the women redshirt. ThereĀ“s 6 foot Devlyn Jeter among others...
As far as the championship teams go, Sinclair was so overpowering that it made up for any other smaller players on the team. But, those teams were also very physical and unafraid to foul often.

Re: 2012 recruit news
There were posts on this thread about Morgan Marlborough's transfer from Nebraska to Santa Clara. Perhaps the following seven players in the starting lineup for the U23 WNT in their just-played 2-0 win versus Sweden say something about why she might have come West:
Henninger (Santa Clara)
Reed (Portland)
Barnes (UCLA)
Levin (Stanford)
Marlborough (Santa Clara)
Ochs (San Diego)
Taylor (Stanford)
That's 7 out of 11 from the Pac 12 or West Coast conferences. And, 4 of 11 from the WCC.
Anyone think this says something?

So Danica Evans, Colorado Rush, National Team Player Pool, from Lakewood Colorado has yet to be mentioned as pledging to the Pilots for 2013.
