timbers v Chicago
2-0 Timbers at the half!
Goals from Perlaza and Wallace. One from Cooper called back.
Great start and great crowd. The best I've seen this year.
( except when they stood stunned when the ref called Cooper's back)

Perlaza poached the keeper for the Timbers 3rd!
And Alhassan hits the crossbar.

Pandemonium
4-2 looks like an own goal. Possibly a Cooper hand ball in the mix, but it is given.
Or as Tommy Smyth would say...

Re: timbers v Chicago
I expected a damn fine home atmosphere, and it was most definitely delivered. Every ounce of my being loathes the Timbers, but I have to tip my cap (well that is if I wore hats...)
OH and congratulations to Gavin Wilkinson for likely drawing the first fine in Timbers history! Hahaha and John Spencer, well, might want to watch the language with cameras on him... Some people get suspended for 2 games saying words like that

Re: timbers v Chicago
Last year before a Pilot game the sound system went out (shocking). The students started singing the national anthem anyway and the crowd picked up on it. Everyone thought that was fun. My Timbers Army friend who was at the game with me took it a step further and asked Merritt if the Timbers Army could sing the anthem before the home opener, leading to last night's performance.
It was the first home game so I'm still learning. Mysteriously disallowed goals, half the team running screaming at the ref, and the stern lecture after a reckless lunge at a guy's ankles are common with MLS referees, right?

Re: timbers v Chicago
The goal was disallowed because the linesman called the ball out of bounds its arc into Cooper.

Re: timbers v Chicago
This is about 70 minutes before kickoff.
Jack Jewsbury (top) and Kenny Cooper show you how close the field is.
Players walk out from under the North End.
It really does take an Army. I can say I was there to help paint a small part of it.
The new Ring of Honor, with two inductees Thursday.
