liquor....what's your drink?
A compliment to the top beer thread, of course. Currently on hand at home:
Four Roses Single Batch Bourbon
Four Roses Barrel Strength Bourbon
Dry Fly Whiskey
Dry Fly Vodka
Cazadores Tequila
Tanqueray 10
So many choices, such little tolerance...

Re: liquor....what's your drink?
A quart of Calverts whiskey my freshman year in college pretty much ended my relationship with liquor. 40 years later, I still can't stand the smell of it.
Do not try this at home....

Re: liquor....what's your drink?
Hahaha, I had a similar experience with Old Crow whiskey my freshman year! To this day I can't mix anything with Coca Cola... Shudder. I know better now to not drink the gut rot stuff...
As far as booze, I love a higher quality bourbon, just so smooth and warming. I guess if I were going to go to a liquor store and buy a bottle (doesn't happen TOO regularly) it would be 1792 Ridgemont Reserve.
If you are in more of a mood for scotch style liquor, I HIGHLY suggest getting a hold of a bottle of McCarthy's Oregon Single Malt Whiskey by Clear Creek Distillery. It is actually made in partnership with Widmer as they ferment the barley and peat in one of the brewery stills and then it is taken over to distill at the CC facility across the river. They only sell it once or twice a year from their distillery down in the Portland NW industrial area, but it is absolutely phenomenal, I think they sell it for one day and it sells out quickly at 50 a bottle. It is super duper smooth and peatey in flavor, and compares to any high end scotch (Can't call it that because it isn't distilled in Scotland). The next batch should be released in a month or so I think...

(I swear I typed up above before reading the site, haha oh well...)

I don't think that you can really beat 151 with a Peeps chaser. But if you are in the mood to try you can do a lot worse than Crown Royal Black.

No luck yet finding this McCarthy's Single Malt in CO. Picked up some Rogue Single Malt instead. Figured I should since I've been using a Rogue shot glass but never filled it with their product. So far, so yummy! The "ocean aging" really comes through, lol.

Re: liquor....what's your drink?
Nice! I haven't tried any of the Rogue spirits yet, I might have to find myself a bottle of that in the very near future.
As far as the McCarthy's it is made in pretty small batches and only sold a few times a year so it might be tricky to track down. Plus, if you do, I think a lot of distributors snap it up and then jack up the prices due to the supply/demand. According to their site the next release is June 2011 at the distillery in Portland...

I emailed the guy about McCarthy's. Right now the best bet is to order it from a store in NY, haha. We'll see about that one.

Well, given the lack of a consistent scoring striker for the US, maybe an official tequila is the best bet for watching them...

It's funny, McCarthy's is never around in PDX but I can always find it in big liquor stores in the midwest (Binny's) and CA (BevMo)

Re: liquor....what's your drink?
Probably easier and more profitable for Clear Creek to sell to the larger chains than deal with the booze gestapo that is the OLCC...

Re: liquor....what's your drink?
OLCC is still around? I remember them making us go through hell to get a keg. In CO, I can walk into any liquor store and buy a keg the same way I buy a 6 pack.

Re: liquor....what's your drink?
There's your problem. They probably gave you hell because the OLCC doesn't sell beer. You can't get an Egg McMuffin at Burger King, either
You can buy a keg here directly from the brewery. (and none of it supports terrorist groups).

The one down the street will give you a pint while you wait for them to roll the keg to the loading dock.
If you work there you get a pint on your break, and if you own a share, you can walk in and get a free pint every day.

Not a bad idea. I did the tour about a year ago. Definitely need to go back. Lompoc is a great post tour lunch stop as well.
