Next weekend is the final four for D1 and the finals for D2 and D3. All four games will be available on TV and are usually great sport.

New to the final four in D1 is WCC aspirant Denver, which is in only it's second year under Lacrosse legend Bill Tierney. They got there by beating John's Hopkins Sunday, a team that is usually a lock for the last weekend.

Ordinarily, they could be called upstarts, but Tierney is a Clive-type guy in college Lacrosse. He won 6 titles in 9 years at Princeton (8 finals) and is already in the Hall. he was also an assistant at Hopkins for two of their titles.

It should be a great weekend. The Lacrosse final four is better attended that any sport, including Basketball. If you haven't watched it before, you should try and catch a game or two.

DU is weird. They are probably the only school ever to be dominant at lacrosse and hockey. If ESPN8 "The Ocho" really did exist, they'd be all over it.

Well the only school ever from a country that doesn't rhyme with Blanada.

Cornell has championships in both sports. Harvard has a hockey championship and made the finals in Lacrosse.

Rensalear (sp?)has championships in D1 in hockey and in D3 in Lacrosse.

Cortland has several D3 championships in Lacrosse and has been pretty darn good in D1 hockey for years.

It happens.

I expect DU will remain a Lacrosse power at least until Tierney retires. The guy can coach.

I watched his 2001 Princeton championship that I would call the best display of stick handling I have ever seen (with the possible exception of a couple of the teams my high school put together). The ball never touched the ground and they beat a much more physical Syracuse team 10-9 in overtime.

My alma mater, Gettysburg, just won the D3 women's Lacrosse championship against Bowdoin on the strength of an totally dominant 11-2 first half that was as polished in execution, so I'm celebrating that.

21 tourney appearances, 7 championships, 2 runner ups. That's more of what I was referring to. Although I recognize that their lacrosse dominance is not as storied.

DU has no real track record previous to this year in Lacrosse. ( three first round appearances - no wins)
Reverse the sports and Princeton has done as well.

Well, I was hoping to catch a good semi in the DU-UVA game, but it's already a rout at the half.

UVA leads 9-2

I guess I haven't been keeping up. The Bratton twins are gone or suspended from the UVA team

http://www.streakingthelawn.com/2011/4/29/2142833/teammates-vote-to-suspend-shamel-and-rhamel-bratton

Too bad, they had real talent and were something to watch.

Didn't matter, as UVA coasts to their win. It will be an all ACC final.

Next up- Duke- Maryland.

Player to watch- Zack Howell for Duke. (He's also from my High school)

Pretty sure he wasn't suspended...

Dominant blue collar win for Maryland 9-4.

Won ground balls, face-offs, hits, and defense.

Finals Monday is UVA- Maryland.

Attendance was 45,073 for the semis.
