KenPom Rankings 2012 Empty KenPom Rankings 2012

KenPom released their first rankings of the year recently. Highlights:

17 Gonzaga
23 Saint Mary's
38 BYU
40 Washington
73 Oregon
86 Washington State
122 San Francisco
124 Oregon State
130 PILOTS!
144 Santa Clara
186 Loyola Marymount
232 San Diego
250 Portland State
256 Pepperdine

This puts us squarely in the middle of the WCC at #5. Surprisingly we aren't the highest-ranked team in Oregon. Hopefully that changes. Take it for what it's worth - rankings before a game has been played.

Some put very little stock in polls or predictions, but I find Pomeroy to be very informative if not a great predictor. Check it out (according to his Tweets, apparently Rev does).

At the end of the 2010-11 season Portland was ranked 110 by Pomeroy

The ratings of our preseason opponents for 2011-12
1 - Kentucky
40 - Washington
62 - St. Louis
78 – Nevada
86 – Washington State
111 – Ohio
103 – Montana
104 – UCSB
(130 – Portland)
140 – Utah
161 – Florida Atlantic
182 – Georgia State
193 – Boise State

Pomeroy predicts the Pilots will win only two road games this year (San Diego and Pepperdine) and will finish 13-16 overall and 7-9 in WCC (tied for 5th with Santa Clara). Let’s see where this goes and how close the predictions are come tournament time. What do you think???

I go to Pomeroy's site to look at the stats for the Pilots and our opponents. It's easy to see strengths and weaknesses there, especially after you get a decent sample size.
